Is a Utah hunting license needed to HUNT LE Elk once you have the tag? My license expired last month (June). All I can find in the proclamation is the requirement to have one before APPLYING for a permit. Anyone care to chime in with opinions or fact?

Yes you need the license to go with the tag.

Better get online and buy a new one or pick one up. You have to show both when checked out by the warden.

I disagree with you nochawk. It says "As long as your license is valid on the date you submit your application, you don't have to purchase a new license for the actual hunt". For example, assume that your license expires on June 25th 2008. If you apply before that date, you do not have to purchase a new hunting license for the hunt in the fall. If you want to buy a leftover tag over the counter, your license has to be current to make the purchase. Hope this helps-- UGAhunter.

we will find out, I sent the question to DWR..

BUT im betting that you do as the big game or combo license number is on the tag...

My quote is from the proclamation. Why would the Division tell you anything different? It clearly states that you don't have to purchase a new "hunting license" to hunt in the fall if it was current when you made the purchase for the hunting tag.

your right..got the message back..

A hunting or combination license is only required to be valid at the time of purchasing or applying for any big game, cougar, bear, or turkey permit.
You do not need to have a valid hunting license during the hunt or after you have obtained your permit unless you are going to be hunting small game. Thanks
