Wasatch Rifle

I am fairly new to posting on this site, but thought I would reach out for a helping hand. I have a wasatch rifle elk tag and would love to harvest a dandy bull. I have been looking a couple of times and have seen a couple of good bulls, a handful of smaller bulls, and a bunch of cows, calfs, and spikes. I am sure that the pressure of the archery deer and elk hunters will move them around, so I am not confident where they will be when my hunt starts. I will be up there a bunch durring the archery hunt trying to locate a good one. I am hoping some of the folks on here could provide me some areas that have been known to hold some of the larger bulls. I know I am not the only one who has this tag looking for some help, but appreciate any info provided.

Thanks in advance.

PMs appreciated.

As my hunt comes to an end, I will give you some info Jimmy.

Brandon,
Do you have a Wasatch tag this year? If so make sure you look for our camp and drop in. We usually camp around the top of Indian Creek. You can't miss the big white enclosed trailer with the logo on it.

JimmyG,
I spend an awful lot of time up there. One thing I have learned is that there are generally big bulls from one end of the unit to the other. The east side of the unit get hunted the least as well as the extreme north. If you are up and around the area you are more than welcome to drop in and say hello. I will be on the Wasatch from the 7th of September through the 25th. I will also be up there on the opening of the archery season for a week. I will be more than happy to answer questions. Just bring a topo map with you.

It's always an adventure!!!

This may sound stupid, but find the cows. Where the bulls are right now is not typical of where they will be for sure come rifle season. The biggest baddest bulls will locate the herds and push the smaller herd bulls off right about when your hunt starts. Cover some country and don't get too trigger happy. Patience pays off on this unit that is full of average 300-330 bulls. Getting to the level above that takes effort, a little luck and great timing! Good luck and post pic's when your done! Tell us about the hunt!

Thanks for the replies and the offers for help.

Browtine, I will hope you find a big bugger and just can't quite get it done with a bow, and want to put your hands on his antlers. Just kidding, I wish you the best on your hunt.

AWHOLELOTTABULL, I will definatley come and say hello and see how everything is going.

Thanks again.

Jimmy G i wasnt able to go in depth on lm last post but here is a little better one. like these guys said this unit is full of 300-330 bulls dont shoot one! the majority of your competition is done by the end of the first and second days wait it out and then start hunting by wednesday the big boys are ruttin again and this is your best chance at an unpressured monster bull. They dont bugle on this unit at least not the monsters. They come in canyon to canyon and rut what they want and then leave if the ruts hot then they move all day so get out the glass and be ready chances are you will find an awesome bull within one day then you have to figure out how to get to him. Like i said before WALK!!!! not a lot of guys get out and hunt or even walk they park there truck walk 100 yards and sit. Get in the snedge during the day and hunt especially if you have seen a bull you like in the area listen cause the little buggers scream all day long find them and the big bulls sure to be near within one or two canyons.
