Anyone have any info on this area as well as 421, and 41. I'm thinking about buying a landowner tag 3rd season for deer in this area. I'm prepared to show up early to scout. Any info at all would be appreciated. [email protected] if you don't feel comfortable posting

thanks in advance

I suggest you check the Colorado regulations before purchaseing the landowner tag, they might be underperscribed in that area and have leftover tags so you might be able to save yourself some $$$ if you do a little homework. Check out the Colorado G&F website, the codeing takes a minute to decifer but may be worth your while.

It looks like in 42 one would probably draw with 0 points, 1st choice. But, you lose any points and do not gain one this year!

Cabinfever,

Don't do it unless you want to have a license and a preference point. You are almost guaranteed of drawing Unitw 41 ,42 and 421 as your first choice. It sure as heck aint a $950 plus license fee unit.

Last year, you would have had a 95% + of drawing a 3rd season tag as a first choice. don't think I would pay for it. Only reason I can see is if you have a buch of points already.

The only reason I would buy a tag is so I could be guarenteed my preference point. What is the likelyhood of pulling it on my second choice? I still havn't heard anything about the quality of animals. I'm also checking into units 40, 41, and 43. Any thoughts on these units. [email protected] I've heard some good stuff about 43

Cabin,

The tag for 42 also includes units 41 and 421. There are some good animals in there but are hard to find. I live in unit 41. You won't draw that tag second choice, especially this coming year since 3rd season is a week later than normal. Unit 40 (Glade Park) has some good animals too, just make sure you know where to hunt as it has a lot of private land in it and a small portion of public. I don't know anything about 43. If you are going to buy a voucher I'd look into a better unit.

As stated, last year you would not have been drawn on a second choice. However, in 43 you would have in all seasons except the 4th rifle season.

How are second choice tags awarded? This is how I understand it. If there are 400 tags for say unit 42 and 400 guys put in for unit 42 as their 1st choice, you could not draw this tag as a second choice. However, if only 200 guys put in as their first choice, than a guy who put in for unit 42 as a second choice may have a resonable shot at drawing the unit on second choice. Am I right, or am I way off course.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say if you guys had a choice to hunt units (42/421/41),43,44,(64/65),or 62 which one would you choose keeping in mind that you want an honest shot at a 180 or better buck. [email protected]
