My hell Mike!

Congrats on one dandy-huge Bull Elk.

OTC Colorado tag to boot....rub it in on use poor ole Utards--wait in line for 15 years and 6,250 conservation tags later to draw a tag and you do it with an OTC Colorado either sex tag!

Mule Deer, Rocky Ram, Dall Ram and Bull elk......you are the real deal.

Great Eastman's Cover.....

Real deal??? Everybody is the real deal. It just depends on what kind of "deal" you are. ;)

Thanks for the compliment. Its more than just a big set of antlers. The privilege of watching and hunting that bull was something I might never experience on the same level again. It was a really memorable time.

I especially appreciated Scott Baldwin's story, "Jackson's Ram." Its a gut check and another good reason to hug your kid every chance you get.

Sounds like a great bull. Are we talking about the
latest issue? I've not received mine yet, maybe
tomorrow. What Unit were you in Buckspy or if that's
secret information I sure understand. By the way was
it EBJ or EHJ ? Congrats on what sounds like a great
hunt, I can't wait to read all about it. Later Taters

WOW I just read it Saturday morning, sitting on the can! Very Cool! Your gamble on the 3rd vs 4th season definetaly paid off. Great read.

nice bull, the ram story was bitter - sweet...Mike you gaining weight...LOL

Loosing weight currently Manny. Eating lots of fiber on the "Shitz Yourself Skinny Diet." I'm wearing out my Kenetreks in the Colorado high country this summer. Thanks for the kind words antlerrick. I sit here often looking up at the fabulous looking shoulder mount of him and shake my head in disbelief. "It" hasn't worn off yet.

Congrats Mike. How about a pic of the mount?

"I sit here often looking up at the fabulous looking shoulder mount of him and shake my head in disbelief. "It" hasn't worn off yet."

I know the feeling well, lately, shaking my head in disbelief, cause i can't get drawn for chit......LOL

You can buy an over-the-counter elk tag and still go hunting Manny. There has become so much obsession on high score that many people fore-go the chance to hunt big game in spectacular country because there aren't 400 bulls and 200 inch bucks running around. Hunting still needs to be about friends, family, having fun and actually being out there.

There is nothing that can compare to an evening in the wall tent sharing stories around the stove with good friends and family. A cold beer and hot bowl of chili or stew, stepping out of the tent and staring up at the stars in the chill of the night. Thats good clean livin'!

I've been really fortunate to take some great animals, but the memories of times shared along the way stand out as much as a big set of antlers.

I'll take a picture of the mount and share it sometime soon. I'm at work for my 48 hour shift right now.

I know,, your right, I went on a souting trip the other day man just taking a nap out in the middle of no where, crap, I slept like a baby in the middle of the day with the wind blowin thru the tree's..pricless!

Well said fella's. I keep trying to explain to these
knuckleheads here at work that my time in the mountains
in the fall is what I spend most of my time dreaming of.
I'm not a great elk hunter by anyones measure but NO ONE
enjoys their hunt's more than I do.
I'm really hoping for a nice mature bull for my buddy
or myself this fall but if we stike out like sooooo many
times in the past I promise we will have a great time.
I can't wait !!!!!!!!

Congratulations on a great hunt. Based on your comments above, I went back to Eastmans and read the "Jackson's Ram" story. As a parent, that's a tough, but very touching story to read. It does remind us to appreciate them every day.

Dang, now I want to read the jackson ram story, where can I find it? Great post BS thanks for keeping it all in perspective.

Nice bull, congrats. With all those years of evading hunters he passed on a lot of genes, too bad folks will end up killing a bigger than average raghorn instead of a great bull like that.
Your buddies' bull is a smoker as well!
Jeff

Simply amazing! Two Awesome Bulls, and very well written story, very inspiring to know that it can actually be done, thanks.

Congratulations Mike. Awesome!
You live the dream and make it happen.
Best of luck this year as well.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I'm glad you enjoyed the story and it was a special one I enjoyed sharing. I really have a great deal of reverence for this old bull and will take some time to take a pic or two of the mount to post sometime soon. I've got 500 bucks worth of scaffolding rented this week to re-finish the logs on the east side of my home and am doing that now. The mount is a full-sneak, slight right turn on the older Jonas pos-tex form. My buddy Barrett Rowles did the upholstery job on him and it looks oustanding. Those old Jonas supply full sneak forms have an incredible big-bull head on them and really make the mount look great.

Went by Sportsman's last night to pick up a copy but the Eastman's Hunting Journal they were selling had a mule deer on the cover (A Buck Like Dad's). Did I already miss it, or is my local store slow to put out the new edition?

Mark

BS,

I just saw your bull in the Kennetrek product booklet sent today. That is a sweet bull! Bulls like that are very special, especially on a OTC tag. Very nice. Seems we only see bulls like that out of Utah, Nevada, and Arizona. Definitely a top end bull from any state, but a very special Colorado bull.
