Just curious if Colorado pretty much sticks with the same number of tags per year, per unit or if it may fluctuate a little year to year? Looks like I would be one point short of drawing 30 3rd deer hunt with three points, but would draw with four as of last year. Thanks - Brian

Dont count on the same # of tags every year. I applied for 4th rifle buck for 18, 28, 37, 371 tag assuming the # of tags would be the same as last year (this was the last draw and hunting season). Looking at the stats I needed 1 point for that hunt code so I assumed I would not draw and I would get a preference point (I had 0 points to start with) and get my 2nd choice which was 3rd rifle same units. Well I drew the tag because the biologist doubled the # of buck tags from 200 to 400. As far as I know (unless you have inside information before the draw) you can only go on the previous years stats. I guess just cross your fingers and hope there will be a few less people applying for the same hunt code and a few more tags. Right now biologists are finalizing post hunt population estimates so they may not know what the tag numbers will be. Do you know who the biologist is for that unit? You could give him a call in a few weeks maybe he will know. Good luck!

The applications are due the first part of April, and they don't set the tag numbers until the DOW meeting in May. I have never found anyoe who could give me info that would help prior to submitting the application, but the local guys would be your best bet.
