CO Elk Archery Question

Was at a 3-D shoot last evening, and somebody mentioned to me (since they new I was heading out for Elk OTC hunt in Sept.) that I needed a special archery hunters education card for that liscense.

I have read my regs, hunted in Colorado before (rifle) and have never hard of this...of course its 30 days before we are leaving, so it startled me.

Is he just full of it, and messing with me since I shot a perfect score last night, or do I need something special above and beyond my Pennsylvania-based hunting/trapping education card and my CC# issued by the state?

Thanks in advance.

You have to have a bow hunter safety course certification card, valid drivers license, you SSN, and birth certificate to bow hunt in CO.

Just Kidding, your hunter safety card is all that is required.

If you have one of the new blue licenses from our Total Licensing System, your hunter education number is considered verified if "Verified" is printed to the right of the number. If it is verified, you don't have to carry your hunter ed card with you while hunting. If it is not verified, you must have your card with you at all times while out hunting.
This ^^^ is from the Colorado DOW website. You can't buy a Colorado tag without the proper hunting safety certificate from a state [US] or province [Canada].If you are hunting with a gun you need the gun safety certificate with a bow you will need the archery safety certificate. As stated above unless it is verified by the DOW you MUST carry the appropriate certificate also. I had to take my hunter education course again [after 35 years of hunting]so I could hunt muzzle loader last year in Colorado.

Interesting. I was under the impression that you had to carry your hunter saftety card and your license while in the field, but often wondered why since the CDOW copied and noted my hunter safety card number when I obtained my CID number.

I just looked and sure enough all my CO tags show Hunter Saftey Verified. I will still carry my card since its in a bifold carrier with my license, but its nice to know that I do not need it anymore.

The CDOW officer told me all that a non-res needs to purchase a OTC archery tag, is a Valid DL and a hunter safety card.....he said there is no archery cert. needed to purchase...

Since i stopped in @ the DOW office a few years ago, my tags say that I have a Hunters Safety Certificate. Now i don't have to figure out where that "safe place" is that I last put it.
