Fishlake Archery Tag

I drew a Fishlake/Thousand Lake archery tag this year! I have been scouting, setting up trail cameras, tree stands, ground blinds, etc., for five weeks now. I have set my standard at the 360 inch mark and have sen a lot of bulls that will qaulify. Until yesterday, I was excited to pass up some bulls if I had to at the first of my hunt, and wait for the rut to start to chase them in the rut and hopefully kill a big bull. I talked to a guy yesterday that said he had the tag last year and said it was easier to hunt the bulls when they were in their bachelor herds, than when they were split up and rutting? He said that, because of the deer, spike, and cow hunters it turned it into a joke. I was going to hunt the weekends until the last week, and then if I hadn't killed anything, I would take the last week off! That was my plan until yesterday! What do you think? Stick with my original plan or not? Should I take advantage of the first good bull I see or bank on the Rut?

If you see a bull that satisfies what you're looking for and hope to take, why would you let him go? Archery is difficult enough as it is without letting a large bull walk away. They don't get real big, and 360 class is REAL BIG, by being dumb. Most of those bulls don't make multiple mistakes each season, or they wouldn't have gotten that large to begin with.

Personally, I'd shoot a bull as soon as I had an opportunity to take something that matched what I was seeking. In fact, I have a tag on a neighboring unit, and that's precisely what I plan to do.

I agree with CAelknuts. If you get a chance, smoke him..
I've hunted or helped on the Fishlake for years now and like any unit, you can't depend on the rut. Stick to your original plan and adjust as you go along.
If you are sincere about a 360 bull, your opportunitys will be slim, especially with archery equipment. There are a lot of decent bulls up there this year, but in my opinion, 360 is a huge goal for an archery hunter, not to say it can't be done. I'm not trying to deflate you, just don't get dissappointed.
Find a bull that you like, get your shot, and be happy with the experience.
Good Luck.. If you know where you are camping, I'll look ya up! I enjoy meeting others hunters from here..

Hey Rick......he is camping on some psycho guys property up at Fishlake that thinks he knows everything!!!! He will probably lead this guy down the wrong path!!!!! ehehehehehe

Rick,

I like the advice! I guess I'll be bringing the hammer down sooner than later, (Hopefully! I am camping on the summit right before the Hancock flat turn-off on the left-hand side. There are a few trailers with mine. My buddy Jason Rappleye has some property right off the oil road there, you can't miss it! I drive a silver duramax and am camping in a bumper-pull weekend warriior! Love to talk to you!

Thanks

Josh

That damn FLEH,
He promised me that trailer spot this year and I noticed the other day he had given it out already... Was planning on dumping my wife there this weekend as a matter of fact and leaving her for a week!

physco!!! hit the nail on the head there!!! haha!!
I will make it a point to stop and say hi.

Jason, you going up this weekend then?

Rick...You know you are still always WELCOME up at our place. We are going to have to make more room! I am not going up this weekend, but I think Josh is...Right?? But there will be a bunch of us up there next weekend!

Josh....Sorry, I couldnt resist when I saw this post. When I read it I knew that it was you.....

Just whatever you do.........Dont listen to ME!!!!! Just ask RICK!

Heck Rick, just dump your trailer at some particular GPS coords....then Bev can whack with a stick anyone that tries to take the spot next to her, which is perfect for,

Oh I dunno......MY TAJ MAHAL!

Then we could have a girl camp. No guys allowed (except maybe you and Chet and Jace, perhaps).
