What gun did you shoot your first deer with? Do you still have that same gun? Should be lots of memories out there.

I shot mine with a lever action 300 savage. It was my dad's gun and I still have it.

Still have the Ruger M77 30-06 I shot my first muley with about 28 years ago, even have the mounted buck from way back then to. Ugly little thing.

.308 model 99 savage lever action with open sights. It was my 11th shot of the day and I got her at about 1:00 pm. I guess I had a little 'doe fever'. We saw one of the biggest bucks I have ever seen that morning, but we were in a doe only area.
I was 12 years old. It was a muley doe not very far from Depuyer, MT (anybody know where that is?)
I still have the gun. No plans to ever sell it.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-09-05 AT 05:05PM (MST)[p]Marlin 336C .30-30 The year was 1964. A forked horn blacktail in CA. I still have the rack with tag and the rifle

Steve

Dad took me hunting for the first time. I was 16. On the way home we got pulled over at a F&G check station. The buck I got was just barely legal. The forks were only about an inch long. The game warden said he thought I probably shot it and then went over to see if it was legal. Wrong thing to say. My dad grabbed him by the shirt and asked him if it was a legal buck or not. The warden had to agree that it was. Then dad told him shut up and validate the tag while he could still write! The warden got all red faced but never said another word. I'll never forget that day.

Remington Model 760, 30-06. The gun was my grandpas. Still have the rack, tag and rifle.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-09-05 AT 05:14PM (MST)[p].300 Savage Model 99 and I still have it and the spike blacktail......brings back alot of memories.......Thanks, Allen Taylor......

My first buck was taken with a .250-3000 model 99 Savage. He was a spindly 18 inch 3x4, but I was proud as heck. Still have the rack, but not the rifle. In my wise 20 somethings I thought it was a good idea to sell it off. I can't touch a decent one now for under 800 bucks.

Bura, looks like we have something in common. I also shot my first buck with a model 99 .300 savage. It was my grandpa's and I still have it. I am pretty lucky that I am the only one in my family that really hunts so there is no fighting over who gets what. I also have my grandpa's belgian made browning automatic from almost 80 years ago. Still shoot it some.

Model 99 300 Savage with open sights. 13 years old, walking an old railroad grade that was grown up with oregon grape brush. I look ahead about 100 yds and spotted some brush in the shape of a big bucks horns. I fantasized for a while dreaming and wishing it was really a buck. Much to my supprize that brush jumped to its feet an my fantasy came to life. However, it was not as perfect as my dreams, a little buck fever set in. Bang, still standing, bang still standing, bang and down he goes. Still not over, I broke his back, Waaaaa, waaaaa he bawls until I can get to him and finish him off.

My 1st buck, an 18 1/2" wide 3 point blacktail that weighed in at 200lbs. I had no idea I had killed a trophy class buck until the neighbors started raving over it.

I continued to use that 300 Savage for many years, harvesting my 1st 12 deer. I still have the rifle, was hoping my son would be using it, however Snow boards and girls are higher on the priority list.

Remington mdl 700BDL in 6mm with a Leupold vari-x2 3-9, spike by fork in the middle of a clear cut. It was one of dads guns, he still has it but its not going anywhere.

winchester featherweight .243. used it on a little forkie mule deer on the 36a youth hunt after inexperience caused me to blow a chance at a huge (memory has probably made it bigger than it was, but it was definitely big)coues buck.

sold the rifle about 5 years ago to buy a winchester stainless .270. traded that .270 to my dad a year later for his 7mm rem mag.

Killed my first deer with a borrowed Winchester model 94 30-30.

The deer was a 3 point whitetail. I killed it in 1976 on the family farm. One of the most memorable highlights of my life. I can remember the weather, time of day, what I was wearing, etc., like it was yesterday. My younger brother killed a big 9-point buck the same morning.

Searcher.

First deer, whitetail doe with a .30/30 Model 94 passed from my grandfather to my uncle to me. Snow tracked her to a bed at the base of a spruce, shot her through the neck at 50 yards as she was looking away. That rifle will eventually go to my son.

First buck, 1x2 yearling muley in velvet, Hoyt/Easton Gamegetter II with itty-bitty round wheels. Still have the bow, my buddy's golden retriever ate the antlers while I was dog-sitting. Took them off a 5' shelf. Bad dog. No biscuit.

Remington Mountain Rifle in 30-06. Drew a tag in Arizona Kaibab West Side, late hunt in 1988 and shot a 24" 3x3. Gave the rack to a good friend because of limited space on the wall and bigger racks. Still have the rifle.

Remington 600 Mohawk in a 222. I was 8 years old. I am now 34 and it was stolen from me last year. It still makes me sick. Cool thread!!!

Mine was with a 30/30 Marlin with a curved, metal butt plate, don't know the year. It took me 4 shots, the first three went over his back at 100 yards. I was pretty shook up, but he was too interested in the does to run away. I'll never forget it.

Shot my first deer 1n 1984 with a Smith and Wesson 1500 Mountaineer 7mm mag that my wife bought me for my birthday. I put a Leopold 3x9 variable scope on it. I still have the rifle and it is my only one I use. It still shoots straight as an arrow.

I shot my first deer, a little forky in, 79 with a Remington 742 woodsmaster in 30-06 with a 2x7 Redfield scope. Still have this rifle. First bow deer , was in 81. I killed a spike by three on the hill behind the house with my Bear Whitetail hunter. This bow is no longer with us,burned up in a wall tent fire. I can remember both of these events like it happened yesterday. Great memories , thanks

Shot my first deer with a Savage model 99 303 savage. This gun was purchased by my father new. There have been 4 family members and my best friend kill their first deer with this rifle,I still have this gun and look forwad to my son using it to kill his first deer.

20 gauge double barrel shotgun. slug. 14 years old. A small doe but I was proud as heck at the time.

I think I was about 13, it was a blacktail doe near Reedsport Oregon. I was shooting my dads rifle, someone had stollen it out of our house and we recovered it 5 years later. Anyway, its a Remington Model 600 in 6.5mm Rem Mag. with a laminated wood stock. Anybody remember these? They are making them again I think. It was a terror to shot when I was little, still have it though.

I shot my first deer with a Weatherby Mark V Deluxe chambered in 7mm Weatherby Magnum. Don't have the gun, won't ever have the gun. It was a gun that belonged to a gentleman that had taken my father, brother and myself, along with his son to hunt deer. I didn't feel like my gun was sighted in well enough for the shot presented, so he offered me his.

I shot my first buck, a spike muley, with a 6mm I borrowed from an uncle. Funny how 22 yrs later I can remember everything!
