unit 85 colorado elk

I have a mule deer tag for the combined season in October. I will leave the elk alone for you.

I hunt around the spanish peaks and trinchera peak. I wil try to give you a scouting report when I get back.

Sounds good man.I live in Boncarbo, I am pretty much a local and love taking that 4wd trail up trinchera! Most awesome 4x4 trail PERIOD!

437 is a pretty darn good trail too. Its a side trail off Purgatory camp ground area.
Do they offer big horn sheep tags up there by Trinchera? That place is loaded.

Goin up the 437 trail last year,

I see those sheep almost every time I go up there. We vacationed one summer out there and I got to watch the rams fighting, it was a pretty awesome sight from about 50 yards.

APBT...NEVER go down that hill! I did once because it looked elky. NEVER AGAIN! I used to hunt that area alot, been up that road many times bear and elk hunting. Great area, but just got too crowded during the archery season. Good luck on your cow tag.

So do you guys think i'll have a good chance at getting an elk up there?

With it being November, i am thinking i should be looking down in the lower areas. I've lived in this unit 12 years and have never hunted this area and really dont have a clue as how to hunt it.

Up north we used to get up at the crack of dawn and get up to the place we thought looked good. Big fields, meadows, smaller opening is aspens. Hopefully they wont be in the dark timber they are up in unit 84.

I'll be using a scoped muzzle loader this year so i am limiting my shots to 150 yards and maximum off a good rest, 175yards.

Shooting a massive 405 grain conical.

Anyone have some tips for these places that we've mentioned?
