This mule deer buck was taken on January 29th...."05, in Sonora, Mexico. By Tom Pilkington of Nevada

I had hunted a total of ten days, having seen 6 bucks in the 30" range, but never had a shot opportunity. The terrain there is desert, with extremely thick stands of mesquite and cedars. The wind was blowing that morning, 20mph, so I opted to hunt in some bowls, formed by very low rocky ridges.....feeling that the deer would prefer to out of the wind. I was following a game trail, still hunting, around a small hill when I saw this buck lying under a mesquite tree at 35yds.. I had the sun behind me, wind in my face, and I had Scentlok on, with a mask. He never saw me as I fired. I was using a Ruger M77, in 270W. I had no choice but to shoot in the neck as that was the only part of him (besides the right side of his rack)showing. He got up after the shot, I followed up with a quartering away shot, and he was down. He had 3 tines broken at the tip, ended up at 33and an eigth, 3X5........would have been a 4X6 will all his tines intact.

The next morning I saw at 800 yds, 2 more bucks that made him look tiny.

Congrats to Tom for harvesting a "Monster Muley"
