Fellas-

I just sold my Nikon Laser Pro (compact/single handheld) laser rangerfinder....because it rarely hits an animal at 425 yards....let alone 450 yards...

Question- What is the best laser rangefinder that consistently hits animal targets at 500+ yards?....That is compact and held with just one hand (preferrably)?

I've been looking at the Leupold with trajectory calculations....it certainly is lightweight and compact....but does it hit an elk at 510 yards (everytime).....if not, which manufacturer does?

Thx-Chris

I carry the Leica 900 and it will range out that far. Sometimes you need to hit a tree or rock way out there but it will do it. I've had hunters with the new Leupold 1500 and I couldn't get it to range past 375 and wouldn't hit a group of trees that I ranged with the Leica at 725, so unless they have fixed it, I would look elsewhere. One of my hunters did bring the new bushnell 1200 out and it did quite well, good clarity and less money if that is an issue.

What I was trying to say in my last post is the Leica will range out to 900 yrds, and have hit a rock pile at a little over 900.

Not impressed with my leupold rx2. Sometimes it will go over 500 and sometimes it won't do 100. Too many settings and is a pain to change from one to the next. Also the tbr really doesn't matter with a flat shooting rifle unless you're shooting at an extreme angle.

I have the Leica 1200 compact. I have ranged animals at around 850 and sides of hills beyond the advertised 1200. It is AWESOME but it is expensive. I love this product. It is small and very accurate.

I have the Nikon 1200 it works good out to 500-600 on antelope up to elk. It has a hard time after that your better off trying for a rock or the ground even. Then it works fine. I have got readings out to 1100. my father in law has a Lecia 900 and it doesn't do any better. My experience has been that all range finders have difficulties at the far end of their range.

leica crf1200 with out question! just bought one and have ranged out to 1356 yards. it cost more but worth it. read the customer reviews on the leupold rx2 on cabelas web sight and that should convince you not to get a leupold.
