I have a friend who drew this unit premium tag, He has been scouting the unit pretty well. Since it is pretty much a once in a lifetime unit, anybody willing to share information on the unit? Wondering where the bulls hang in the rut etc. He has found a lot of areas where it looks like there has been rutting activity in the past, but no elk are currently in the areas. Do the Elk in the unit move aways into the rutting zones or does he need to find the elk now as they don't move much once the rut starts?

We hunted opening weekend real hard. There was quite a bit of bugling going on, but they weren't getting aggressive and going after it yet. Man can I say the boulders are thick. Every elk opportunity was at less than 100 yards and at one point we had 4 bulls within 100 yards bugling and growling and we never did visualize one of them. Every time we went out we had rifle shot opportunities at 320-340 bulls, but have not yet found one bigger than that. Yesterday we hiked back in quite a ways and after a lot of action on the 320-330 class bulls, we found a last years kill (wounded, fight injury?) that went 369 5/8. This is a fun, but very tough hunt. my friend is still up there hitting it hards, odds are that a bigger bull will eventually come out of those trees.
