I have a question for all you in the "know". I recently recieved an e-mail from the head of SFW. This e-mail states that the elk herd has been cleared to increase to somewhere around 88,000 instead of 55,000. My numbers could be off a few thousand because the e-mail is at my work.
My question is, If elk are on the increase again, How will this effect the mule deer herds? My experience has been that where the elk are thriving the deer are not. Places I hunt today used to be crawling with deer and very few elk. Now the exact opposite is true. I realize there are other factors involved but I truly believe there is a correlation in the balance between deer and elk.
My feelings towards this are bring on the elk. I would much rather eat an elk but I know not all of you feel that way. What are your thoughts? Does this conflict with the Mule Deer plan?
