I need help. My buddy just put three 3rd season landowner tags on deposit, and was wondering if I want one. I need to know if this is a unit worth spending the money on. I just don't want to make a bad decision. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Good unit. Undersbscribed as stated by koda. You'll have some company on this hunt. I know Garth Carter sold the crap out of these tags. These poor guys could have drawn them first choice.

You just got taken! As mentioned, it has been undersubscibed, meaning you could likely get a tag just by entering the drawing. On top of the $$$$ you paid for the landowner voucher you still have to buy the $293 license :(

The area has a lot of timberline country (that will be worthless during the rifle hunt) and a ton of private land. You still have a few good chunks of public land but everyone and their brother will be crowded into it as well. Best of luck....

Everything Jeff said is dead-on. I've hunted this unit 3 out of the last 4 years and I've either drawn 1st choice or bought OTC leftover tags. On public land you can find some nice areas but you'll have to be willing to hike a bit. Tons of trucks and quads running up and down the forest roads along with camps around every corner.

What everyone has said begs the question:

Why would you pay for a hunt that can be drawn with 0 points?

A guy would buy the tag because he didn't know any better and he listened to the "Expert" who was selling the tags. Jeff is spot on. This tag can be drawn on a Fourth Choice. There is a reason why it is not a "HOT" area.

43 has a few decent bucks, but a lot of other hunters. As was stated before, the high country is public, but it is also wilderness meaning not much access except through a few select trailheads. Much of the Public is surrounded by private, limiting the access. You will see lots of mature big deer on your hunt. Unfortunately most will be in fields that are in front of $3 million dollar homes. Do you have the guts to ask them for permission to hunt??

Bottom line is the past few years there were almost NO landowner tags requested. Now a guy goes out there, signs up a bunch landowners to apply for Landowner tags, and then sells them to unsuspecting Joe. I wouldn't buy the tag unless it came with tresspass rights. I have hunted 43 a few times, Jeff even helped me out one year.

Who would be so unscrupulous? That seems downright underhanded and dishonest to sell those landowner tags for a undersubscribed unit without disclosing it.

CAVEAT EMPTOR!!!!!!!!

That's latin for those of you who dropped out of high school early to become governors tag deer guides. Look it up.

I just want to thank everyone for their info. I finally figured out how to read the Colorado preference points information. 43 will not be on my hunt list this year. Once again thanks
