Dutton update

Had a blast this weekend, we hiked our a$$es off and came close but no cigar. Dutton is the most unforgiving country I have ever hunted, and the elk seem to enjoy running up and down the nasty canyons at will. Saturday morning we had a good six-point screaming at us, but not exactly what I was looking for. The bulls were bugling everywhere, though they were not to interested in cows it seems. Just sorta hanging out with them. We located a smoker bull Saturday night and chased him around that night, got back on him early Sunday morning then the fog moved in and we could only see 30 yards. We could hear them walking and chirping, but just could not see them. After the storm blew through i looked for him Sunday night and Monday morning but could not find him. I easily saw over 14 bulls and 100 cows that weekend so it was alot of fun.

Keep on 'em coyote, sounds like your having fun!!

Cc,

Sounds like you are making the most of this hunt. I have told people for years Dutton is rough, but they think I am joking or something. Good thing you are a fly-weight and young! Sounds like you have your bull found. Keep hunting him and it will come together.

If I was not so lazy I would come help.....help hold camp down. Ha!

It is the roughest hunt I have ever been on, averaging 8-10 miles a day. I could always use a good camp chef!! I like my steaks medium!
I hope I can find him this weekend, this storm kinda scattered them, so I need to hoof it back to where he was and see what I can find.

There's room for all of God's creatures, right next to the mashed taters and gravy.
