Elk Options 2nd season anyone?

the boy and I will be hunting in the sage brush near Craig, CO for our first mule deer hunt

I see a ton of left over public land cow tags for various units 3/301 being fairly close to where we are at..

would it be worthwhile if we tag out on Mule deer early???

looking for any sort of opinion/suggestion as we are pretty green still

2nd hunt out west for us

Better early than late. Fall comes quick up here and the snow will definitely be driving the good bucks, hell how bout most deer, down onto private property by the second or third storm. Take your chances with the leftover elk, there are plenty up near Craig and I'd be happy to give you a few starter spots! Good luck this year...

thanks for the advice and I would most appreciate any starter spots..

we are very green, but have a lot of enthusiasm.. My son is a Senior in HS and the Mule deer hunt is a gift to him..

I've been traveling and have not had a chance to look at the site until today
