I was honest with a booking agent who advertises here on MM.com, they called me about the hunt I went on this past season, the quality of animals was there but everything else was sub-standard, below average, and I said so, the outfitter was a great person and a family man, but just not up to par for a medium $ hunt?now I'm getting calls from the outfitter & I feel like crap even though I didn't lie or over dramatize the situation?did I do wrong???

You have got to tell the truth, The next guy realy needs to know what he is in for and if he is paying for what he is going to get or getting for what he is paying for.

As long as you told the truth you did the right thing, if anything this guide should look at it from an outsider's perspective to get opinions on how he can improve to better serve his clients the next season.

Manny the best thing you can do is tell the truth which I'm sure you have done. If the guide is upset and you explained to him how you felt and no remedy was offered he may have felt he did nothing wrong. If you were sucessful or not shouldn't enter into the equation but did he fulfill his contractual requirements is the issue. If not, you need to tell him so. So many times people get upset when they pay money to hunt, and the guide did his job, but nature didn't cooperate and the guides get flack over this. Let them know exactly where you felt they were lacking on their end and that's the best you can do. If they are a standup operation and they are at fault they will try to make it right in a manner that work's for both of you. No you didn't do anything wrong if you gave them a chance to remedy the situation. Good luck!

You did the right thing by telling the truth. If you give a guy a bunch of money, you better get a decent hunt.
If the guy is calling you and has a problem, be nice but tell him your opinions on the hunt, hopefully he will learn and get better. If he has too big of a chip on his shoulder, that's his problem, not yours.

You said the game was there, so I assume the hunt itself and the guiding were ok.

The question I have is were you misled as to the accomodations, meals, etc. If they told you you would be getting steak every night and it turned out to be peanut butter sandwiches, and they told you that you would be sleeping on luxurious cots, and they turned out to be old and not so comfortable, then you were misled.

If the game was there, and your weren't misled on the accomodations but you assumed they would be differnt that you received, etc, then I don't think you have a beef. However, if you were led to believe you would be receiving one thing and experienced a bait and switch scenerio, that is another matter.

Bottom line is that honesty is the best policy, and if you told the truth, you did the right thing.

venor, ergo sum (I hunt, therefore I am)

From my experience, the most common thing that happens is the hunter wasn't all that thrilled with the experience (for whatever reason), but instead of saying anything they don't want to ruffle any feathers and just keep their mouth shut figuring they won't bother doing that again and go home.

Next thing you know the hunter has given his opinion to someone who gets it back to the outfitter and now the outfitter feels like he's been side-lined out of the blue because Manny never said anything when he left.

Then the outfitter's pissed and that's precisely the reason the hunter didn't say anything in the first place, cause he didn't want to start an issue!

Tough call! Damned if you do and damned if you don't!!!
