Arizona or Nevada

First of all I want to say hi to all, I havent been around in a while. Got a question and need some input. This year will be 7 points for Nevada and 6 for Arizona. What do you guys think, 13B or 033??????? Dont want to try for both just incase I won the lotto and drew both, I would HAVE to miss one of them. Thoughts would be great. From all the checking and talking I've done, I have a better chance to draw Nevada.

Mike

Your odds are better at winning the lottery!! Just kidding. I'd put in for both cause I'd never get that lucky! Good luck Mike!!

Why not apply for both. The chances of you drawing them are nearly as good as the sky falling.
I'm not sure about Nev. or Az. but most states allow you to turn your tag back in and retain the bonus points if you happened to draw both.

I would apply in AZ and send in for another bonus point in NV. There have been some tremendous deer taken in AZ lately and the rains so far this year are great. Should make even better horns.

It would be foolish to not put in for both hunts. With seven points for Nevada you have a good chance, as far as Arizona just keep your fingers crossed like the rest of us.

Draw both if you can this year. Price increases and other stuff are in the works next year. Get'em while the getting is good. Plus the odds are very much against you drawing either, let alone both.

like I said, I doubt I would draw both but if I did I would not be able to take time off for both hunts. As far as I know you cant return a drawn tag. The only thing pushing me for Arizona is have a few buddies who have hunted the strip so I have some good info, Neveda would be starting in the dark withought a light. I know my chances are slim to slimer on drawing both but stranger things have happend.

Mike

AZ does not allow areturn of your tag, I do not think Nevada does either. colorado does, but you lose your points, unless you forfeit your tag fee...ouch.

I am in same shoes as you. However, statistically speaking,if the odds are 50:1 for each of the two tags, the odds of drawing either one of the tags is 50:1, but to draw both is 2500:1.

go for both. you could always be sick for a couple weeks if you do get both.

Mark

I think the AZ odds are less than 1% for the unit you mentioned, somewhere around 1 in every 125 applicants gets
a permit. Not sure about NV

033 in Nevada is a VERY hard draw even with 7 points (lots of hunters have 7 or more points) odds are well over a hundred to 1. There are many areas in Nevada that have just as good of high end bucks as 033 and are easier to draw.

from the "Heartland of Wyoming"

O33 is not producing the top end bucks it used to. I've heard of a quite a few guys that have hunted it the past three years and have been disappointed. Including some very good muley guides.

If NV can not find a way to get a limit on nonresidents before the draw, which is how it is looking now, nonresidents with lots of points are absolutely going to clean up on the deer tag draw this year. Not many residents have over 4 points, and lots of nonresidents have at at least 4. I bet 033L odds are aroung 1:3 for anyone with 7 or more points this year, if that holds, and 033E will be a better than not proposition (75%?). As to wether it is the best one in NV to apply for, that is another story. AZ 13B is still going to be a true longshot, even with the caps gone. Next year, who knows about anything. If you really are stuck on just one, go for NV. The problem is that you will not know how the cards are going to fall until the comission meeting in May, and applicitations are due mid April. And there is a slim chance you might get NV results before AZ is due, but it has notr worked out that way lately.

If you look at the regs for this year you can apply for only a bonus point in Nevada this year. If you don't want to put in for both that would be the way to go. Hopefully the Res/Non-Res issues gets resolved by May.

There are some changes coming as far as tag allocations go, that's for sure. Last year I believe if it would have been a completely open draw without regards to residency, non-resident would have received about 19-20% of the tags. There is an outside possibilty the NR quota may fall into single digits this year. It all depends on the lawsuit, motions, judges, etc etc. We'll just have to see how things play out.
