Well, I've been sitting on a water hole for my third night, just reading my Louis L'Amour to help pass the time, I hear something crackle on the deadfall hill across the water from me, I don't know why but I dismissed it as another squirrel making a ruckus like they do. A couple minutes later I hear something closer and look up through the pine boughs that I'm hiding begind to see a cow elk not 20 yards away! She sees me turn my head to look and has me pinned. At this point I've been hunting since the opener and finally have an elk in range and what am I doing? Laying on the ground reading a book, completely out of position and not paying attention. Well she doesn't like me laying there and moves up the hill behind some trees, I quickly ranged where I hope she comes out and draw, but oh no she goes the other way and wanders up the hill with another cow and dissapears. $hit, Damm, ***k, sunuva.....I know it's just a cow, but hell, I still wanted to shoot one. I got one more night left, maybe tomorrow???
