LAST EDITED ON Sep-07-08 AT 11:14PM (MST)[p]What do you guys think he will go?

I'm not great at this, but I think about 355-360.

His brows look a little short to me-15", 3rds at 13", 4ths and 5ths maybe 18 and 15 each. maybe 50 inch beams, 45 inside. 60 mass....

I know othrs are better than I am......

I'd shoot it on day one....

good luck.

I've scored my share of deer and can usually guess them pretty close but admittedly, am no hand attall judging the score of Elk.

That said; 365
i'll be interested to see how far off from the Pro's i am.

I hope I am not over scoring him to much!

g1 - 17
g2 - 18
g3 - 14
g4 - 21
g5 - 19
mb - 54
mass - 28
width - 36 (inside)

total - 378

I know I might be a little giving on his fronts but he has so much length on top and he thirds have a deciving hook. I truly believe that he is a 375 to 380 class bull.

Look more like a 340 bull to me. The brow tines are pretty small and he doesn't have too much going for him. I can't see that bull scoring 370+ at all.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-08-08 AT 07:10AM (MST)[p]That is a nice bull. I'd guess mid 350's to mid 360's. If I had an archery tag and that boy wandered close, I'd slip an arrow into his breadbasket for sure!

That bull looks almost identical to a bull I videoed Saturday night. I had to really watch the video close to determine it was a different bull!!!!
Thanks!

I'd say around 360. He's got a lot of length, but not a ton of mass. I'd drop him in a heart beat.

Thats a good lookin bull. He's got good length in back. I'd say he's in mid to high 340's.

Wow azcouesandelk, you think this bull is 380? You don't sound real experienced to me. Hes 340-350 in my book. Still a shooter but you dont know what you're talking about!

well bob....you dont know who you are...or who he is. Ill tell you it maybe a bit over scored. 360 looks about right, but callin someone out like that? Ill have you know mr. AZcouesandelk was one of the guides on the last az raffle tag...ya the one with the big ole photos flyin around. And ive seen some video of his from last year. Ill even bet he is a hell of a lot younger than you and modest about what he is good at, unlike some ignorant bugger that gets kicks out of baggin on someone. Id be willing to bet your not a certified measurer either, nor is he and he asked opinions not critiques. ill tell ya i been off...usually low... on animals and i could careless. its all good though, while your thinkin up some response and sittin at your computer he is probably chasin elk.

btw numbers arent hard to read he came up with 378. not 380, those two inches can mean a hell of a lot to some people so dont start roundin and soundin like a bad a$$.

whodoyouthinkyouare thanks for the comment and the critiqueing. I wouldn't say I am not real experienced but I have spent a good amount of time in the field with very proffesional people and have spent alot of time scoring animals both on the ground and alive. I put in over 50 days a year just scouting for elk hunts, and I am not always right on with the score. The previous hunt I have been on we put down a 400 inch bull and I was within 2 inches on his score and within 1/2 on each tine!

Also this is a very decieving bull if you look closely you will see that his frounts flare out and still hook up giving him some extra inches, most of the people I have talked to think 14 to 15 inch at first but with the flare out and hooks his fronts are in the ballpark of 17 inches, I use the measurement from the burr to the tip of the nose as an indicater since most mature bulls will be 17 to 17 1/2 inches from the burr to tip of nose. His thirds also are his widest point because the hook way out and then up and that is where you will the 14 inch tines IMO. As for his g4's and g5's they are extremely long which I am sure you can tell. His topend is signaficantly larger than his fronts and that is where you will get the 20-22 inch g4 and the 18 to 20 g5. When he has his head down his beams are slightly taller than his back and from my experience when a bull has his head down and his beams reach his back they are anywhere from 48 to 52, and this bull has beams longer than that plus they hook in giving you an extra inch or 2 and that is where I got the 54 inch beam. As for the width he is not overly wide but is slightly wider than his body so I believe him to be 35 to 38 inside (so I gave him 36 to be slightly conservative). As fro mass he may look like a pencil rack bull but that is because the tines are longer than they appear. This bull is by far no insanely massive bull but he has somewhere between 56 to 60 inches of mass. And when you add up the measurements and the way that I came to that you come up with 375 to 378.

I hope my lack of experience and knowledge has taught you something.

Thanks for the kind words BigWooley and good luck to you on your tag this year I hope you nail a bull like the one in the video.

haha i hear an echo..... I will say i believe azc&e has much more experience than me and gets out a bit more than me, saying that i aint shabby on scoring bulls either. Now ya wanna argue coues and its on.

Just a little update on this bull. I was up helping on the early rifle hunt in this unit and we got this bull down! Gross score is 370 with 4 to 6 inches busted off I will post pictures later today once I get down unloading!

Oh and the actual measurements are

g1 15 (right side 14 because its chipped)
g2 16
g3 12 (right side 10 because its broke)
g4 22 (left side 21 because its chippped)
g5 20 (right side 19 because its chipped)

MB 55 on right and 56 on left
Mass 56

Inside spread 38

Gotta love the late end post, after someone puts the actual measure up! Wow some people don't know when to stop putting their feet in their own trap. Azcouesandelk great job on the judging, close enough for my book!

Good job younghunter! That is a great bull. Were you guiding or hunting? I am assuming guiding.

I was thinking around 370 from the video, but I tend to be more conservative so I was surprised how close I was. You are right - he is deceptive. His 3rds are weak and that gives him an appearance of being more of a mullet bull (short up front long in the back) but the firsts and seconds do have some curl. What would he have scored without the deductions?

LAST EDITED ON Sep-29-08 AT 04:46PM (MST)[p]I was just helping out on the hunt. It was probably one of the best elk hunts I have ever been on with the activity and the overall quality of bulls seen.

We figured if he wasnt chipped or broke at all around 375 so I was a touch hich on the score but I will take the 2 or 3 inches off any day.
