*****NOT a Comment in favor of or against Spidey getting killed******

Isnt it incredible that with all the attention and people watching Spidey that he has not been taken yet!?!?!?!

for me, it is a testament to how difficult elk hunting really is!!! Again, do NOT care who gets him or if someone gets him, I find it awesome that it did not happen first day...

Have hunted these critters most of my life, and LOVE them, and their ability to miraculaous vanish and appear in front of you at inopportune times!!!

Ya, I expected that the Governors Tag guy would want that bull and that the Mossback crew would have gotten him by now. Nine days into the hunt and I'm guessing the bull is still alive.

The Monroe is a lot tougher to hunt than a lot of people realize, especially if you have a certain bull picked out that is the only one you would take.
There is a lot of thick pine canyons and ridges where a bull can go unseen for a long time, as is the case here.
Some lucky hunter may just stumble on his this weekend if he is still alive then..
Elk hunting can be tougher than ever, but then on the other hand, sometimes things fall into place and it works out really easy. You watch, somebody will get Spidey from the road and be able to load him in their truck whole...

I do not know to much about elk hunting "yet", but it is my understanding that elk can move 10-20 miles a day if they have to. Is this true? He may be in Colorado by now back on the farm:) Kind of like a lost Hog dog or Cat/Bear dog finds his way home. Any insight into traveling distance for elk. I have a friend that was hunting a big buck in Nevada and he moved 2 miles in one night. Also There is a Mt. Range between Delta UT. and the NV border that the deer supposedly cross the desert in one night 15 miles or so. An old sheepherder to told him that when they had tags out there years ago.

It was rumored he took an arrow around opening morning. I believe they are just looking for a dead bull so they can still tag it before the archery season comes to an end.

With over 200 trail cameras up and running and several guides after this bull someone would have seen it by now.

IMHO Spidy is dead.

Archery is a year round commitment!!

SW thats exactely why spidey isnt dead. With that many ppl chasin any buzzard on the mountain, he would have been found. he is alive and probably in colorado by now. Someone would have smelt a rotting corpse or seen the buzzards circling, he got pressured he moved, and he moved along way.

Lol catman....that COULD be true!! Lol

Sure seems weird noone has seen him letely, even with the best of the best looking for him.......not too mention all those trailcams you KNOW are set up!
Kinda looks like they might find Bigfoot before they find Spidey! :p

I am not sure that any guide would be saying anything if they had him spotted. The bull has probably gone nocturnal. However, he will eventually be found. I hope everyone after him has a great story to tell, but ultimately, it wouldn't bother me if makes it through.

The bull that took the arrow on the opening was a different bull.
And Slam, I think they thought they had a bigfoot sighting up there... just waiting for verification!!! LOL..
But you are probably pretty close to being right about finding Bigfoot first!!!!
You can't even slip off in the trees up there to visit nature without getting caught on trail cams!!! haha!!!

Forgive my ingonrance, but I've been reading many posts on this mysterious bull called the "Spidey Bull".

Can someone give more detail on the sought after creature? Monster bull? How big? What state is he in? Are there any pictures of him?

Thanks

You know what DUNK I think they should
of named him BIGFOOT from the begining
cause that is about what it is like.

Either the big guides are tight lipped
about trail cam photos or he has moved
on.

I am guessing he's been gut shot by some archery hunter, ran off and died and no one will ever see that poor bastard again until someone stumbles upon his carcass a year or two or five down the road. RIP Spidey.

Its great having all you guys saying "he's been gut shot by some archery hunter". At least archers follow their shots instead of blasting away from across the canyon and assuming if they don't drop you must have missed.

Take out more than you brought in!

No more than dumb @ss's that buy a rifle and shoot it a few days before season just to make sure it is shooting good, forget about the shooter.

girls...pick up yoru skirts and quit throwing insults...this thread is not about Barbies and who gets Ken for the night...this thread is about the majesty of critters who can evade us...

All of us have made unfortunate shots and all of us have wished we had done something differently...

i.e. the bull below was a bull that got shot a little too far back clipped one lung and the liver...long story short...we waited an hour to track...took us 7+ hours of hands and knees tracking him till we found him...was this guys second bull he has ever seen in his life, and the second bull he put on the ground in two consecutive years!!! Additionally, was the only bull to talk the whole hunt, and was with another bigger bull about 330...this one is a trophy for more reasons than its score (which is not high)

Sorry Inline, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. I was just guessing at what has happened to Spidey. That was not ment to be a jab at archery hunters at all. Chit happens.

So do you think those archery hunters who shot those cows (as in livestock) last year near Strawberry followed up their shots? Now that was a jab at archery hunters.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-09-08 AT 10:47PM (MST)[p]no more than the gun hunters who hunt my uncles ranch in Montana followed up on the cows that he PAINTS the side now to say COW, and one STILL shot one cuz he had a "cow tag"

made newspapers...

Now we joke about branding season is

Castrate, Cryo (Brand), and Krylon (the cows)

now back to elk...

LAST EDITED ON Sep-09-08 AT 10:51PM (MST)[p]antlerrick you mean the bull that got hit with the arrow was a different 440? bull with a mid 30? inside spread, and it wasn?t on the Monroe? Hmmm I wonder where that bull is now?

Archery is a year round commitment!!

Yes it was a different bull. They have sheds of 430 from last year and he grew more this year...
Antler1 is right...It was Chubby...

Well...I too am amazed at how Spidey has not been collected yet.. he's so high profile...I wonder if they could have nailed him and absolutely SWORE everyone to secrecy by penalty of law...or hangin by the nads...or something... and are making a MEGA deal with Eastmans or whoever to run the story EXCLUSIVE..???

It almost scares me if he is alive, knowing that a monster bull is THAT good... My chances at one would be VERY SLIM! :0)

Pulling for Spidey...unless the avg Joe(or Dan) can get a crack at him...
