I have a tag and haven't been able to afford to go scouting one of my friends said to try this forum for help. I am leaving this afternoon to do a little scouting before the hunt. Any ideas on areas would be greatly appreciated, I hate to waste this tag.

So turn the tag back in if you don't want to waste it.

I hate it when people draw these tags and they simply cant put gas money on a credit card or get a small signature loan or even borrow from grandma to get the funds to go and hunt their once in a life time hunt. ?That is once in a life time hunt?

Sorry if that came across negative but take your tag and go kill a bull. If you can't find your 480" bull than take one you like that's hunting. If you have a rifle tag than you shouldn't have a problem with 99% success rate on bugling bulls.

Good luck I am positive you will succeed

Sorry for being cranky it must be a moon phase I'm going through.
Maybe someone on here will give you gps coordinates to their honey hole with a monster bull in it.

Do what ever it takes to get gas money.
It's a once in a lifetime deal.

I wouldn't even worry about the money for gas. Do like they say and borrow it if you have too. This opportunity doesn't come around every year, or every ten years, or even twice in a lifetime. Don't mess it up now you have it in your hand. You can always pay the money back, you can't re-do your hunt..
Hunt hard and enjoy!

There still isn't a damn thing wrong with asking for a little help. I don't think he asked for honey hole coordinates.

I was just looking for a place to start, I don't expect anyone to tell me where their honey hole or a 400 class bull is. I just was looking for an idea of where to find elk. I appreciate those who are willing to help, I would like to be able to spend $10,000 on gas like some have this summer just scouting but my budget isn't that big.

We're just trying to get you to understand that you should do whatever it takes to make this a hunt of a lifetime, because it will be. I don't think anyone was ragging on you Dex, just want to you go and enjoy and don't let something as silly as a tank of gas keep you from a great memory.
Believe me, If I knew that area better, I'd be sending you info as we speak, but I have only hunted there a couple of times...
I'm sure like mentioned above, with the rut in full swing, you should easily be able to find the bulls, and then just harvest one that you will love to look at hanging on your wall forever!
Good luck to you!!

swb,

Dude, cut the rifle crap! I have lots of friends who bow hunt and none of them act like you and a couple others around here. Jezus you act like you are some kind of elite great white hunter or something? You want to hunt with your bow go for it, but I am sick of your jabs to rifle hunters. If you do not like the dates and so forth then pick up a god-damn rifle and quit complaining. Just to clue you in hot rod, RIGHT NOW IS THE BEST BOW HUNTING TIME!

I will agree, if this guy is asking for help 36 hours before his hunt starts, then don't expect much. You should have done this about 3 months ago.

Usually guys are more then helpful on this site, I hope you have gotten some good PM's. I guess its a bad time of the month for a few people on here. I wish i could help you out but i have only been down there a couple times and it wasn't in september. I wish you the best of luck and hope you have a great hunt. Don't let a few self-righteous pricks ruin your hunt.

I never did mention bowhunting once in this thread. I merely stated he wouldn't have a problem tagging a bull with the high success rates that unit has. ?Fact?

I also stated he would be hunting bugling bulls. ?Fact?

He should have the time of his life and bag a bull in the process. ?I am crossing my fingers he kills a good bull?

I was a little blunt and possible out of line with my first two posts but he comes on here with one post and probably won't even post his pictures when he's done with his hunt.

So Gezz don't get your panties in a bunch John Wane. I really could care less what anyone else hunts with as long as it makes them happy.

How?s your elk hunting going this year anyway?

I haven't been able to get out for myself much because I have been helping everyone else with their deer and elk hunts. I am also fully aware of how good the pre rut hunting is right now that's why I have started going out every other night. I will keep going out at least once or possible twice a week until the season ends on Dec 31.
Wish me luck!

Fair enough.....

My year will not start any time soon. No elk for this cowboy this year. I hate elk.;-)

I hope the guy gets some last minute help as well.

Jeeze what a bunch of dorks. Dex look around this general area, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

ClorideRus;

Thanks for the INFO we've been having a tough time this year in the archery, and my buddy gotz a anyweapon tag also, I hope this is the hidden canyon. I LOVE U GOOGLE MAPS!!!!

The picture from Google maps is were Ive been watching some very nice bulls this year if anyone that has a tag send me a PM. maybe i can show you exactly were the bigger bulls are hanging there

Dex, I helped a guy there last year and he wanted to hunt around the management unit. I have always tried to stay away from there, but it was a lot of fun. We saw aournd 30 bulls opening morning and they were all really dumb. We could have shot several 360" bulls that morning. We turned down a couple of other 360" bulls that night and then I had to head for home. They killed a 365" bull the next morning.

If you need more info than that I know a couple of guys that have been arch hunting and have been seeing up to 40 bulls a day according to them. PM me if you need help or more info.

Dex, I don't know the area or I would help out. Do yourself a favor and post pictures after the hunt and countinue coming to this site, maybe someday you can return the favor to someone else. It is really a great site and alot of great people that will help you out!!! Good luck and POST the pictures.

Great area If you don't know it get a map and head for the management area. Its a big square area marked off on the map.(just below indian peaks) This is an area that is fenced off to keep the cattle out. Bulls will be bugling like crazy all over this area. If you dont like it there get up high and glass and then move on the bulls you see. You can shoot any bull you want ,but take you time and enjoy your hunt. You will have many opportunities to shoot. Just don't shoot the first 5 point you see. This is no secret area every body knows its there.Just don't drive off the main roads!John
