Finally read the instructions on how to post.... Never bothered as too many of you MM nuts had more photos to look at anyway. I hope they measure up to all those I have enjoyed over the last few months that I have been frequenting this website.

Sorry about the bull...

While out spotting this year....I was focused on this buck 200 yards with my spotting scope when I saw him hunch up as a shot rang out. Craig Nolan from CA took this buck with his guide. I thought I was alone and BANG..... Pretty wierd.

I guess we made it easier for tree huggers to hug trees.

Ever slept in a game bag before? This was a first at 39 degrees. The idea was to pack deer that evening... With bulls in area and wife already given ok... Why not just spend the night and hunt for bulls in morning, Right?... Wrong! Too Cold. When shivers woke me at night... wallet size space blanket saved my bacon. Since game bags were used briefly...Kept waking up thinking a bears nose was in my face... Long night, but worth it. No bear... exept in my head.

My new mental image is when my boys are old enough to go hunting with them and take their picture as a proud father.

Thanks for taking the time to load all the pics, they are awesome. I especially like your velvet buck with the sun setting behind you.
Great captions for each picture too.
Thanks again and congrats on a great hunt!

It's a great feeling when you break through that frustration and post your own pic!
Those are great photos!
Thanks for sharing!

I LOVE the picture of you packing out the deer with the city lights in the background. That is an awesome picture and I am really surprised that the magazines did not use the picture.

Yes the bull was taken off the Front. The bull photo shown earlier was taken from a distance with a spotting scope. He later was taken from as he came trotting into a Primos HotLipps double reed cow call. I have four guys to thank for dropping their lives to hike up and help me pack him out and take photos. Some may have heard this story... but I wasn't suppose to be hunting. I was only going up to the area for a quick scouting.... but that's when luck set in again for the second time this year. All the scouting early season did pay off..... I only hunted in Utah with a tag for each mule deer and elk for a grand total of three days. Opener muley Saturday... you know the story... opener elk Thursday... my buddy missed a six point...spooked off at 45 yards...I went to Colorado for 10 days of hunting... My wife agreed to let me go if I hunted less on the Front. No more hunting from Aug to Dec.... every weekend... etc... So I semi-snuck up after my trip to Colorado to check on my Honeyhole... and Whack. "Huh, Honey, I'll be home a little late tonight."

Another funny story about the elk season... When to CO with Inlaws on their first elk hunt ever, bow none the less. Since I had taken a good buck they were in first position to shoot until they were successful. I grew up hunting this area and hadn't been back for 15 years... We had a blast, missed several good opportunites... Brother in law and father in law had multiple opportunites to take a bull but missed or spooked them off. On the last hour of last day.. Brother in law shot this bull... it ran across the meadow towards my father in law... he didn't notice it had be shot, so he shot it was it came into him too.... So both took a bull... Notice the exit wounds on the bull. Great way to end a 10 hunt. I was stoked for them.

Those are great pics and stories. You have brightened my whole weekend!

Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work.

Great pics and I really enjoyed your article in Eastmans. Nothing like backpacking in the dark to be able to hunt or scout in the morning.

After pounding your legs hiking up that steep crap-- there's no option but to sleep up there. Wouldn't it be nice to just wax one the first day and be home without braving another night? Awesome pics, thanks again.

I've slept in Teepees, under trucks, in a ditch, under the stars, all to kill a big one, got some but nothing that big! Maybe I'll try sleeping in a game bag!

FYI... The guy with the recurve is Jay Pregill. First Buck taken with a bow. I met him after several days of scouting the same place. This is the buck he shot in 2004

YOU KNOW...I'm addicted to HORN PORN! Love the bachelor group... Looks like your daughter is growing up with your passion as well.

Last night my were chosing to watch Hoyts Marketing DVD over playing SpidermanII on their playstation! It was funny to watch them with the reaction of each shot.... "They got em Dad!"
"I want to shoot a buck." " Dad, can I go take my bow (little PSE red starter bow) and shoot a buck from a treestand?"

"Hell, yea boys!" (Shouting and yippies....)

The wife rolls her eyes...

THE WIFE'S FIRST EVER BOW SHOOTING She was grouping her shots at 20yds the size of CD. I thingk I have her hooked. We are talking camo, bow selections, arrows... Talk about new excitment in my bow hunting... Outfitting my wife and taking her into the hills. The boys have been there... but not the wife... This year is going to be fun.

Well, other than shooting bows with the fam in the winter.... I try and get a head start with becoming familiar with the natural lay of the land for hunting in the late summer. I feel the best way to winter scout the bedding areas of high monster muleys in rugged, cliff terrain is by air.

My winter scouting starts in late Dec and goes through Early April. I am jealous of all the great shed hunting going on right now and wish I could join. With little spare time... and making sure the wife has some sense of balance. I only get to go WINTER SCOUTING (Skiing)if its at 5:00am. Similar to hunting, with skiing I have a group of guys that go up early 5:00am to hike up to Mt. Superior or Cardiff Ridge or Flagstaff ridge across from Alta. Some time I have hiked up around Solitude and Brighton. Winter is similar to summer scouting and hunting. I get up there prior to sunlight so we can get great photo shots in the morning, just like looking for bucks at first light. Then in less than an hour... the light is gone and photo session or scouting session is over.

I am trying to cross-over a photographer to take some wildlife photos with me and accompany me into the mule deer and elk scene.

Anyway, keep up the year-long scouting anyway you can.

Find some bone instead of break it!

GW4BOW, nice photos!

It's good to see your family interested in Archery as well.

Keep it up!
