Anybody doing custom loading for a side business? I would rather a reloading guru reload my new ultra mag loads. One of the American Rifleman magazine editors put together his recommondations for the 300 UltraMag....which I have absolutely no idea about.....Here was his recommondations....

Federal 215 Primers and IMR-7828 Powder?!?!!?? Something to do with the long case and slow burn process of a magnum cartridge. He also suggested Retumbo H-1000, 4331, RL-22, RL-25 and IMR-4530, but said the IMR-7828 powder wins hands down especially with the 180gr-200gr bullets.

The long and short of it is I'd really like to find a pro in this department and have no desire to get into the reloading department. We can work out payment options...I'm sure they won't be cheap.

Thanks

He might be pritty close every rifle will shoot differantly but on the primer side use federal 215 M the M stands for match grade primer they are more consistant

How crazy of an investment is the reload business??? I used to reload shotshells with a Mac60 (I thing this was the model) and it was pretty easy.....primers, wads, powder, shot and that was it. The reloader cost me $60 and that was really it to get going. In the Cabelas reloader catelog there's tumbler's, vises, grain scales?!?! what else? Other than the materials.....

Reloading is a good thing if you plan on doing alot of it... sounds like to me that you are just looking for a couple of boxes, for what your looking for in a 300rum you'd be better off buying them save the brass and then decide if you want to pursue reloading, I mite be wrong in this assumption but reloading is not something that you just learn over nite, but there is nothing wrong with getting all you need and giving it a whirl! Figure it this way if your gonna shoot over 10 boxes that would be well over $300 so for that you could get all you need to reload for close to that, nobody knows that but you...Greg

GJM-
Your absolutely right, reloading is more than I want to get into. If you know anyone who takes in spent shells and reloads on the side I'd certainly give them a ring. What's your thoughts on the factory loads in general for the Rem 300 Ultra? Is there a match grade (premium) that shoots more consistently?
Thanks,
Chris

Chris,
I have found that the factory 180 Scirocco Remington shells shoot fabulous in my .300RUM. Consistantly groups at about 1" to as low as 3/4".
I'm working w/ the Hornady 150SST but haven't developed a load to suit me yet.
The 180 Scirocco's are abit much for the whitetails I'm hunt'in, but should be great for big muleys or elk.
Hope this helps!!! :D

Buckrub-
Thanks for the tip on the 180gr rem loads. I've actually found someone who's in the reloading business and am going to work it all out here soon......thanks again-
Chris

crcountry, If you are looking for custom loaded ammo, Nosler just started a new line, and loads the .300 Ultra. Arizona Ammunition, and Superior Ammunition do also I think. There are more than likely others. If you do get into handloading, the rewards are great. Ammo that you make yourself that shoots well in your rifle. mtmuley
