Wasatch Archery Bull

Well, I have a story. I have waited for years for a story like this so I cant wait to share it! I drew a LE Archery Elk tag and my Bro-in-law (Michael) volunteered his services to guide on this hunt. He is a hunting junky too so it didnt hurt his feelings to go and chase Elk around with me!! My father in law and some good friends came up and helped me out also. The morning of Sept 9, we started down a canyon we had been hunting and seeing bulls in, and we found one that was going nuts!!! He was up on a ridge with a couple of cows, bugling at a bull in the bottom when he started raking a tree. Michael got the whole thing on video. We set up on him but they turned and went into the bottom. We sat and watched for about 20 minutes and saw where they went and they didnt come out. So we went around the canyon after them. When we got into position Michael took out his Montana decoy (Wilma) and started calling about 50yds behind me. After a few bugles and raking a tree with a stick this bull couldnt take it. He started raking and bugling and making his way to us. As he was coming in I almost had a shot at 40yds but there was too much stuff in the road, so I had to wait for him to come around on us. He was headed to a tree I had ranged at 30yds so I drew my bow and waited. As I was at full draw a cow and calf walked right into me at 8yds(also on video)!!!! I thought we were done!!! But luckily they were so focused on Michael's calling and Wilma they didnt pay much attention to me. Finally the bull got to my 30yd tree and stopped, I had to shoot over the cow to get to him and my arrow found HOME!!!!! He went about 100yds and expired. It was by far the most amazing day in the woods I have ever had. I want to thank Michael for everything he did, and thank my family and friends for their help and support. I also want to thank my wife for her understanding and letting me be me!! Good luck to all this season!!!

Congrats on an awesome archery bull, especially during a year that has proven tough for bowhunters with LE elk tags. Way to stick with it and get in tight on him!!
