My son and I are accumulating CO points. We have 4 or 5 now, not sure. Since we live in Alaska and don't have enough vacation to scout, I was hoping all the talent on MM could point me to advice or a service that could suggest ranches that offer unguided plains mulie hunts. I would expect to pay for the service and the access to the ranch, but have never hunted with a guide and don't think I want to. We have both taken some pretty nice mulies, but would like an opportunity at a MONSTER MULEY! Also, did I miss Huntsonora bucks this fall and other Old Mexico bucks from this winter? Good to be back -Thanks, Dave

As always, I think the best place to start for a non-resident is Jeff @ Anterquest (aka Deerking). I'm sure he's familiar with someone on the plains. Search the threads for his username and you should come up with a link to his website. The only problem with the plains units is that they are mainly private land. Also, I'm not sure 5 points will get a non-res close to drawing out there. On the other hand, you may be able to find a ranch offering a landowner tag and you could save your points, but I'm sure that would cost a pretty penny.

Sealer - Thanks for the reply. Looking at my first post, I should have said that I expect it to take 9 or more points, but that I wanted to start exploring the options. Many of these hunts have to be planned at least two years in advance.

I second the services of DeerKing, he seems to know his stuff. If you can get him to stop taking those darn nice pictures and thinking about Africa, he can help you out! LOL Jeff! :)

With 4-5 points you can draw most any of the eastern colorado areas. The problem that you face is that its an awful lot of private land. There are exceptions to that though, unit 103 has quite a bit of public land with great hunting and unit 142 is all public but that takes 10-12 points now. I might be able to help you more depending on what your looking for. Gary

Elkcrzy,

That's actually great info that I wasn't aware of...I may start looking into 103 for 2006. A friend and myself have been talking about a plains hunt for a couple of years, but just ASSUMED it was virtually impossible...Thanks.
