colorado unit 61

Just looking for someone who has hunted deer there before, third season. I put in and should draw this year. I just wanted to hear about your experience there. You can e'mail me at

A friend and I hunted this Unit back in 1991 when there was no point system for this area for deer.
Spent a week there if memory serves me right and we only saw and got one buck. But then we never covered this whole area either.
Camped up on the flat ground from Uravan and walked a large area up there, but not the whole unit 61.

Suppose to be better now, sure do hope so for those that plan to someday draw.

You can kill a big buck in this unit if your willing to put in the time scouting, and hold out for something bigger.

This unit has the possibility of producing a monster but you'll have to earn it. Steep thick canyons with cedar and oaks, probably wont catch them in the higher transition zones(ponderosas, aspens) that time of year. It is a very large unit but the deer numbers are really good. Put in your time and you'll not regret it for sure! Personally I'd hunt the southern end of the unit.
