Wasatch LE Elk Archery Thoughts

Congratulations to all who killed a bull on the Wasatch LE Elk archery season this year.

My son drew the tag this year and we hunted very hard for 14 days. This seemed to be a tough year. Really hot and dry for 3 of the 4 weeks with little bugling. The cool down got the elk to start to bugle but hadn't really gotten them into the rut at full speed. The bugling in our area stopped at about 9:00 A.M.every morning.

My son could have shot a couple of 5 points or a 5 x 4 but chose to hold out for a 6 point. He came close a couple of times but the season ran out he wound up skunked. But lots of good memories.

What do the rest of you guys think about this season ???

Sorry to hear your season went by without a bull. It has been a really tough season for all bowhunters. Those that did kill bulls seemed to do so in the last hours. I know the Bowhunt can be a very tough hunt. It is also a lot easier to draw. What we gain by that is the opportunity to kill a giant bull! Unfortunately the calender had the season ending early this year. I am sure you had some very cool moments with your son. I am sure the harvest percentages will be even lower this year than last! Have a great day.

I believe this topic has been hashed out many times before on this site, but I too think the archery hunt should run a week later. It seems like as soon as the rut starts and you really have a chance, your hunt ends.

I also was skunked on the wasatch as the elk were really quiet. The last 2 days was very fun though as we called in 5 differant bulls without a good shot.I had a good hunt though and also had a good time with my friend Jeremy.
