I thought I would just put this up just in case. If any rifle or muzz hunters find a 300 class 6 point bull NE of the end of the East Hunt road please let me know. I lost his track at the fork of the Sanford trail and Adams head trail. About a half mile from where the Sanford trail heads west is where I jumped him out of his bed. I then lost his track when he got in with some other elk. Thanks
CC

Hey,
This is Kody from your old stompin grounds. Cedar City used to live down the street from you. Give me a cal when you get the chance. We will be on that unit for the next 3 weeks for the Rifle and the Muzz. We will be in that erea Wed. of this week. Talk to you soon.

Good luck Coyote,

I hope they find your bull. Maybe go down after the hunts and do some hard core hiking in the area. Maybe you could get a group together. If it lined up with my days off, I would consider helping ya out! It would be worth it if you could find your bull!

Chad

Hooner,

That is cool you are willing to give Cc a hand. I know he wants that bull real bad!

I personally hope you find it. But isn't it illegal to pick up and tag a bull after the hunt? Not trying to be a dink just asking a question. I wouldn't want you to get it taken away or get fined if it is against the law.

Archery is a year round commitment!!

I was gonna see if someone found it, then I was going to call the F&G and see what my options were. I know some guys in the past have done it. I guess I am just grasping at straws!

Yup. You can only take the head from an animal you kill, during the legal season.

You need to notify them now, not after you find the animal. I've been there before and they are bad enough as it is during the hunt but you really should notify them pronto. Include arrow type, flethcing, brodhead make and weight etc. They will work with you if you can prove its your animal.

The division has made exceptions, especially if you are on the "up and up" like this one is. I would notify them right now though as advised. I hope they can find him for ya!

I have a better idea. We use common sense and if I find it you come pick it up take it home and place it on the wall. Not trying to cause a stir but the post is headed in the wrond direction. He just wants some help finding an elk he worked his A off for. Besides do you know what the chances are of fidning this bull on the DUTTON. Obviously you have never been there.

What you are suggesting, unfortunately, is poaching. Better to work with the F&G for a legal solution IMO.

that is not very common sense it is illegal and now matter what the law is when it comes to hunting all hunters should follow them.come on hooner think about it for a second say some guy does not fill his tag during his hunt he then goes back months later when there are no other hunters the elk are more visible especially the bulls and he shoots one lets it rot out for a month and goes back to get the rack. the dwr stops him ask's him what is going on and he replies i shot this animal months ago with his tag in hand you really think that would work out for him. i do not think so if he finds the elk within a few days wich i hope he does it is still wise to notify the dwr what he is up to. and that is all the other posts were SUGGESTING. your post is the one that hijacked his thread

coyote,

I would also report it, not because of the bs here, I just think your chances of keeping him will go way up without any crap.

I hope your buddy finds him, you definitely deserve that bull. I personally know how far and hard you tracked him and how many days were involved.

swb,

Any word on pro amd his group? I heard they got one, young and small 351?;-) Sarcasm!!!!! A 351 bull is sweet on any mountain! I hope that rumor is true!

Definitely get involved with fish and game to cover your butt. Picking up dead heads is not against the law in Nevada. Hope you find him that sucks.

KTC
the rumor is true they did get a 351 bull
It has short main beams and is narrow but has lots of mass and long points it is a great bull.

Bart and Jason each passed up several 320-340 bulls and Jason even got a shot at a legit 365-370 bull at 40 yards but the arrow went over its back. Bart only saw one bull he wanted to go after and it didn't work out. Bart wanted to get Jason a bull before he went after his bull.

Chad passed up a few bulls early and when it came down to the wire he ended up shooting at a 330 and a 350 bull but missed both. He also had a chance at a larger 365 plus bull but the bull saw some movement and didn't stick around for the shot.

They each had an awesome hunting experience spending about 20 days on the mountain hunting bulls and bucks with a few new friends.

Joe bull was called in by Bart I believe and Joe made good on the shot. Everyone was there to help pack it out. Joe is a super guy and deserved this bull as much as anyone. I personally haven't met a guy as hospitable as Joe. Joe lives in California but has a house near the Dutton. He loaned us his house on our scouting trips, hunting trips and when I went down for the archery shoot in Bryce canyon. I didn't even know the guy and he let me stay at his house for free without him even being their. His wife just asked us to write a letter in her journal on how it helped us out.

Thanks Joe for your hospitality and congrats on the bull. When I get a picture I will post it.

swb,

Thanks for the story. Sounds bitter-sweet? If a guy is finding bulls that is all he can ask. Sounds like they got a great bull, missed some chances, and seen what they liked. I would like to see the 351, sounds great to me!

Hopefully the home front situation gets better now.....

Joe's bull is 4 1/2 years old. He had 45 inch main beams, 33 inch inside spread, light in mass, but had 20+ inch g2, g3, g4's on both sides. Awesome bull for any day of the hunt, but on the second to last day he is double awesome. Then to have lots of friends around to help pack him out and share the experience with a great guy just made it better! Congrats again Joe, and thanks for letting us invade your home. Being able to check on the wife DAILY was a major blessing. I admit to crying during this hunt when talking with the wife, and laughing until my sides hurt from Joe and the 'gang'. Although I ate tag soup, and this being the most emotionally and mentally toughest thing I have EVER done, it was also my favorite hunting experience EVER! Thanks to all who added to my hunt of a lifetime, Mrs. PRO says thanks as well. She has gained a deeper appreciation for the hunting community. She is amazed who many people who have never met her are wishing her well and offering help. I am as well, makes me even more proud to be part of the greatest group of people out there!

Mrs. PRO is a fighter, hell she has to put up with me, she WILL win this fight. Your prays and well wishes are treasured, THANK YOU!!!

Thanks for the update Bart!
I am glad you had a good hunt, and I am even more thrilled with your positive attitude towards your wife. Whatever the issue is we wish her the best!
We certainly will send prays and well wishes your way.
She sounds like a great person!

PRO sorry to hear about your wife. That had to put a damper on the hunt, and I am sure it made it hard to concentrate. Sounds like you guys gave it hell and ate a little tag soup like me. No matter how I tried to season it my soup still tasted like $hit. :) We will just have to give it another shot in 15 years!

pro,

I hope your wife is okay. I have kind of heard the deal and that just sucks. Tell her good luck. She can beat it.

Thanks Bart and SW! This has been the hardest, most frustrating and funnest hunts I have been on, all at the same time. I do not recall laughing that much on any hunt. You can not beat good companionship and comradere irregardless of the taking of an animal. I almost looked more forward to the evenings with these great guys as I did being in the woods hunting the elusive elk, ALMOST !
A hardy thanks to everyone that helped with getting my elk to the top of the mountain. For Bart, Jason, Chad, Dillon, Jeff, Dennis, Ed and Ed to take time from their hunts to help me retreive my elk, tells alot about their character and consideration for others. I hope to repay each and everyone one of you in the future. I will post a pic or two when I figure out how to insert them.
Bart, my thoughts and prayers are with you and Mrs. Pro. She is strong and you will get through this, besides, who will keep you in line? Joe
