This archery season in Colorado I bought an over the counter archery elk tag as I had seen a six point with a 2 foot drop tine on one side with a third antler growing inbetween the original two. The side with the droptine only had another point going straight up like a spike. I have chased this bull for 2 weeks trying to kill him and actually got with in 65 yards last thursday night but didn't take the shot. This morning he was lighting up with the bugles and pushing about 30 cows around in a meadow near a fence line. In my previous scouting I found a well used trail following the fence line way up into the dark timber which eventually led to 2 well used wallows. So this morning rather than trying to pull this bull from his cows across the field which would've only probably frustrated me, I decided to back off and hike up through the timber in the dark to the fence line hoping that eventually they would make there way back up there. Not 20 minutes later I sat as 30 cows trotted past me at 20 yards heading to bed. About 30 seconds behind them here comes the bull screaming his brains out in hot pursuit of the cows. When he came to a small clearing I cow called him, he stopped dead in his tracks with my bow already drawn I let it fly. He was quartering away slightly so my arrow went through the last rib and right through his heart and buried into the far side front shoulder. He turned to run and crashed through all this dead timber like a freight train. He went about 50 yards, hit the brakes and fell over right in front of me dead. I have to give another thumbs up to spitfire broadheads, they made a mess of that elk. I also was able to take a nice buck this year that was severely quartering towards me and the spitfires opened him up like you have never seen. Because of the sharp angle the entry wound was about 8 inches in diameter. I have pictures but I don't know how the resize them to get them up, any help?
