A nonresident buddy of mine just go hit for a Bookcliffs muzzleloader deer tag. This should be a great year for the Bookcliffs deer.

Just to clarify, my credit card was charged for two amounts that would indicate a premium limited entry buck deer tag (in our case a Paunsaugunt unit permit) for EITHER myself OR my Dad, and a buck pronghorn tag for my daughter. Since my pop had oodles of bonus points, I'm assuming he drew the deer tag.

Points don't mean much to me!(aka lucky ba$tard)
I hit Pauns with 1 pt in 2000!
and everything else!
Have fun guys and goodluck!
I am sure this is done and I still have four more states
to wait for!

I drew my Book Cliffs muzzleloader tag and as Prism indicated, it should be a great year. Lots of snow/rain means antler growth. Can't wait for the scouting to begin.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-17-05 AT 08:07PM (MST)[p]Congrats Jeremy,

Whatever the Pauns has or hasn't become, it is still a fun place to have a tag to hunt mulies in! Good luck.

Thanks Jim,

It will be a good hunt and I have no doubts about finding some great bucks to hunt. Hopefully my sweethearts arrows will find their mark. Good luck to you and your family as well, sounds like utah was good to ya this year!!!!

I just got hit for $106 (My tag and my Dad's tag @ $53 each).

Here we come Book Cliffs!

Did anybody out there hunt the Books last year? Would you mind passing along some information? We've hunted out there in the past, but it has been a few years.

Thanks!!

I got hit for 106.00 on Sunday. So with that being said My buddy and I will be hunt'n Vernon West Desert with our bows. I am pretty stoked. It's definitely not a Pauns tag but I still hope to see some good bucks....

For you guys that drew Book Cliffs tags how many points did you have ? Just curious. Thanks.

I had a books cliff rifle tag last year and killed a great 31.5 incher with deep forks that scored 191. I'm from arizona and hired a local to scout and put us in a good spot. He didn't hunt with us but did a good job putting us in a good spot. I can't remember the road numbers, but we hunted near a fenced in wheather station that I bet you can find if your local or talk to the locals. It was down off the top in kind of a transition zone. It was kind of a popular spot but most of the guys shot fairly small bucks early and were out of there. The hard thing was passing up pretty good bucks hoping for a big one. There was quite a bit of snow and wheather and the bucks started rutting good. I heard there was a lot of people in this area because some of the other roads were closed or bad. Good luck.

One more thing, I couldn't believe how brave or dumb the deer were. Some guides we talked to called them cronic waste deer because they were so unspookey. We saw real good bucks standing between gut piles. Like most hunters, I like to get away from everyone, but I really don't think that this is necessary or a good call on this hunt. Stay with the areas that have a history of killing big bucks and let the other hunters kill average bucks and leave. It won't be crowded by the 3rd or so day and bucks should start rutting. The local told us and it was true, new bucks will show up every day as they are in the migration.

My brother drew a Paunsaugunt Rifle tag!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Neither He nor any of his family have been there before.

We will go scouting a lot and try to get some help.
Should be a great hunt!!!!

OK, can confirm that my Dad drew an any weapon (rifle) tag for the Paunsaugunt as the letter arrived yesterday. Turns out my daughter didn't draw her pronghorn tag, the other charge was for my southern region rifle muley tag. So, we're going hunting! Looking forward to spending time with my Dad in the Pauns. What a neat place to hunt mule deer. The country is awesome and having the opportunity to search for a special buck in relatively uncrowded conditions is lots of fun.

Me, my dad and brother all drew Bookcliffs tags this year. Someone up above was asking about how many points we had. I dont want to rub it in anyones face. . .but my dad and I drew there in '02. This was our first year of eligibility to put in again, so my dad and I both had 0 points, and my brother had 3. We put in as a group.
