Paunsagunt Archery Deer

Well It looks like my older brother finally got his Pauns. Archery Tag. He had 8 points so it was almost impossible not to get it. Looks like it is going to be one long summer of scouting. The last time we had a Pauns Archery Tag was in 2001 when our hunting buddy from northern utah got luck. He killed a 175 p&y buck. It was featured in the January 2002 issue of bow and arrow magazine.

Congrats to your brother!! I archery hunted the Paunsaugunt in 2003 and had a blast. I don't think there are many prettier places to hunt than that unit. I loved every second of the time I spent down there.

This should be a fantastic year to have a tag on the unit with the wet spring and the small reduction in tags the past couple of years. I saw several very nice bucks on my hunt and ended up taking a 28" 4x4 (he didn't score real well due to short tine length, but had good width). I missed a buck that I still have nightmares about. He was a little over 30" wide and very tall with deep forks.

Spend some good time scouting and you shouldn't have any problems finding a good buck or two to go after. One other bit of advice is to contact the local biologist on the Paunsaugunt, Adam Bronson. He was very helpful when I drew my tag and is a very nice guy. Best of luck to you guys and let us know how the scouting and hunting is going.
