Mike AKA "BOULDERS" asked me to post this for him.

This is a bull we took this past weekend very challenging hunt due to the fact of a controlled burn in the Bryce Canyon state park that got away from them, this bull was taken by my cousin Rob on the right it was his first elk he was able to get the bull with his dad.
What a cool hunt have not scored him officially I was wondering what you thought he would score? We thought around 330-340.

Nice bull. I would guess closer to 320. Not a very good pic to look at far as tine lenghth for the back of him. Great bull and if the hunter is happy who cares what it scores.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-18-08 AT 10:11PM (MST)[p]If want to measure him up yourself go to the Boone and Crockett web site, they have a spread sheet. Makes it very easy to understand and take the measurements . When your done you can print it off and keep it for yourself.
The bull is just a token to help you remember the great time you had on your hunt. Not the bulls score. www.boone-crockett.org
Hope you had a great time on your hunt!

Nice bull. I would say under 300 for sure. Once you get a tape on him let us know. Is the haze in the background the smoke from the controlled burn?

Congrats on a nice bull. My Dad and I had tags down there as well. We tagged out opening day. I know of 2 other bulls that were taken. That makes 5 of 7 that I know of.

Yes really bad I was wondering if it affected any others in the area or on the Dutton?

ChubbyTuna,
Did the fire come out of the park or was it just lot's of smoke that made it tough? My son had a LE Muzzy Elk tag down there so I am just wondering.

When we left Monday it did not look like it. I could find out in the morning if you would like and get back to you.

Congrats to the hunter. Like said before, if the hunter is happy the score does not matter. Nice bull and for a first bull he is probably very excited, I would be. Thanks for sharing.

Hey boulders was that bull taken on the white man bench area of the paunsaugunt? I had a archery deer tag down there two months ago and looks alot like white man bench.

No it was not. We tryed to hunt that but the smoke again was so thick in that area you could not see anything till they had already gone to bed.

Mike I would appreciate it you would, thanks in advance.

Congratulations on a nice bull and hunt. Too bad about all the smoke, but it sounds like you guys hade a great time anyway. That's a good bull, and what matters is whether the guy who shot him is happy with him or not, instead of how many inches he measures. Chops taste the same regardless.

I know that bull, I got into him about five times on the archery hunt. He got pushed out of the area by some other hunters and the last I saw him was at night in the mudflats at tropic reservoir. PM me if you don't mind I'd like to ask you a couple questions to make sure that's him.

Deadibob I was considering putting in for LE archery on the paunsaugunt next year and i believe i have enough points to draw. I was deer hunting down there this year and saw a few elk but i was wondering if you killed a bull this year with your bow down there and where you saw the most elk. Any information would help out.

I just wanted to say that the controled burn in Bryce Canyon National park, was a controled burn and it did not get out of control. It was a joint burn with the Park and the Forest and it stayed within the control lines, it was around 4000 acres so it was a big fire and there was alot of smoke. It was done at a bad time of the year for hunters but you need to have certain weather conditions to to be able to "control" a fire. Also there was a wild fire on the Forest South West of the park that was alowed to burn, to better control fires in the future.
