LAST EDITED ON Apr-28-05 AT 10:04AM (MST)[p]I have been hunting in the same area of Colorado, (near what I still call home...despite what the Navy says) unit 68, since 1970 or so.

I have seen a lot of big mulies and a bunch of smaller ones. This past year I had the good luck to draw another buck tag. Thinking about years past when bucks have been a bit scarce, I decided to grab the first buck I came across. Two days into the season I shot a nice, tender and smallish 2X3. Later that morning I ran across another 2X2 that would have passed for the little fellas grandfather. He was standing broadside about 40 yards away...long tines, probably 18" above his ears. Oh well, thats hunting.

Later that day My wife and I were headed towards my favorite elk spot to get set up and saw one running across a park. I tossed up the scope, expecting to see a 4X4 or so bull and found out it was not an elk, but the largest buck I have ever seen...anywhere. He stopped, briefly, about 200 yards away, before walking into some dark timber.

All I could do was laugh.

I think about him each time I visit this site.

BTW, that some of that little guy is resting comfortably in my belly as I type this.

Such is life. If ya hadn't took the 2x3 and waited, ya wouldn't have seen a thing! It's kinda like when you're car's warranty runs out, everything starts goin to sh*t!!

feddoc,

Sounds like a typical Murphy phenomenon (Murphy's Law).

Tough break man!

I'm sure all of us can relate to some extent though.

I had a similar experience last October in WY. Mulie meat sure is tasty! Hope our next ones are much bigger.

Searchin' for a 4X4

You do know that the only reason you saw the big one is because you filled your tag. Had you not, you would not have. That is the way Murphy works.
