I was just looking a the new taxidermist section and there is a huge mule deer buck. Do any of you guys know anything about this buck?

I shot it this last year here in Washington. Wasn't the biggest one in the group, but the only one to give me a shot.

Unfortunately, I was by myself and don't have any field photos. Pretty close to my biggest buck to date though. Gonna get him scored when he's done....thinkin' it might go book.

Muleyslyr, you should have held out. You have to let them little ones go if you're going to kill a big one. He would have been pretty decent in a year or two, but now we'll never know.

Muleyslyr - I've killed a few like this one too, but only after numerous "SHOT'S" which didn't make me feel to good about it the next morning!

I saw this buck last deer season running with a few other bucks. I passed on him and decided to take the small "forky"....thought the big fella would be too tough and gamey tasting for me....native americans are meat hunters by instict you know!!!

Acually, Brian and I thought the same thing when we first saw it, "must be a fake". Not so! This buck was killed on the Jicarilla in 1952. The man that purchased it some years back wanted the authenticity verified and had Mr. Chavez (Taxidermist)do so. After sandblasting some 20 coats of paint off it he drilled many diferent holes into the skull and antlers starting with the big droptine stump. The "bone dust" was analized and confirmed to all be real and from the same head, including the skull. It's shown at a museum in New Mexico....Steve

Graybeard is right. That buck used to hang in The Silver Bell, a gun shop in Carlsbad NM. Which museum is this buck currently in and did they ever get it scored officially??
Jared

Pistolero, I was wrong about the museum. The deer head resides at the Red Chimney BBQ in Carlsbad, NM. It's the same buck that hung at The Silver Bell gun/pawn shop, and when Eddie Bell went to move to OK, the above mentioned guy bought the head from him and had it restored by Mr. Chavez. From what I understand, when Mr. Bell had it, someone came to measure it, but couldn't do it correctly because of the heavy paint that was covering it, so, it's never been scored as far as I know....Steve

nice, more fake photos all the time, this is really getting tiresome around here.

Thanks GB I'll have to stop in there when I'm down there to see it on the new mount, looks awesome, even though "Justice" thinks it's "fake"
