Unit 8 Dec Cow elk first time elk hunter......

Hello All,

I would first like to say thank you for any help you may offer. My Wife(first time hunter) got drawn for a cow tag in Unit 8. We are making our first scouting trip this weekend but I am worried that what we scout now will not really help as it is a late hunt and where we find elk now will not be useful then. Do any of you have any knowledge that you would be willing to share about where to look in December when is is cold? If you do not want to post here you can email me at [email protected] I am not looking for you "spot" if you could just point us in the right direction to where you know elk will be in Dec.

It looked to me like a lot of the p/j stuff would hold elk in December. We hunted around Summit mountain (higher ponderosa/oak country) and I guess elk would be there in DEC. if there wasnt a bunch of snow but I only spent 5 days there a couple weeks ago and am nowhere near an expert on the area.
