Has anyone out there hunted this unit? I wasn't smart enough to read the boundaries of the unit before I applied and now I realize that it is mostly private land. I see that a small portion of Ashley National Forest is located in this unit but what about any BLM land? Any help would sure be appreciated!!
This will be my fathers first hunt out of state and I would like it to be enjoyable, Thanks.

Yes, I hunted the unit twice. Once in 97 and again in 01. Don't expect big bucks, but it can be a fun hunt. In talking with DWR folks they do have a CWD (disease) problem with that unit. In 97 I harvested a 3X3 with my muzzleloader and in 01 I harvested a 16" 4X4. There is a lot of private land, but a lot of it is accessible which they don't advertise and I don't know how you'd find out exactly what is or isn't accessible without a call to the UDWR.
Have fun in that unit, but don't expact too much.

LAST EDITED ON May-10-05 AT 04:11PM (MST)[p]I hunted Diamond Mountain in 1999 on the muzzleloader hunt. I agree with kurtski25. Don't expect big bucks, but it was a fun hunt. I hunted just west and north of Matt Warner Reservoir on public land. I obtained a map from the BLM office which showed the private and public lands. I harvested a 20" 3x4 opening morning in a sage brush flat. Good luck and have fun.

Thanks for the information kurtski25. I will be sure to contact UDWR. I never would have thought to ask them about access on private land. Thanks again and good luck hunting this season!

Thanks for the information Mark. I'll be sure to check out that area too. Good luck this hunting season!

We've hunted it before, and everyone's response is true. It can be fun, but there aren't the big bucks out there like there used to be. Private ground all over the place, and nothing to get excited about....
