Wasatch Bull wasted

I went up hunting on the muzzleloader on Wednesday with my friend and we found a bull someone had shot and cut the head off and left everything else. We didn't know if someone poached it or had a tag and just took the head. Looks like it has been dead about a week. It is just behind the latters on strawberry.

What a waste......

LAST EDITED ON Sep-26-08 AT 04:16AM (MST)[p]Tag or no tag its still a BIG deal I would contact the UDWR and the sooner the better.. You would be suprised at what they can figure out if they can just get some info..

Here are some numbers

SLC Office (801)538-4700
Southeast Reg (435)613-3700
or call UTiP Poaching hot line at 1-800-662-DEER

A side note if it was poached and you give the most info to catch a poacher you might just get a tag for the wasatch unit for your help...

I seen a bull just off the hiway two weeks ago in the same area.
Friday night @ 9:00 PM he was standing on the road heading to the berry for a drink. He was between the ladders and chicken creek. I been watching the barrow pit for him for the last few weeks but never seen him again. If he was crossing the hiway every night is was just a matter of time! He was a nice bull but, only seen him in the headlights for a few minutes, so don't know point count or anything.

CANNON
EDIT Sorry went back and reread the post! you clearly stated it had been shot! that sucks big time! maybe it was a "problem" and the DOW took care of it!! But was probably poached!!

I saw something similar on the Fishlake LE hunt but it was a spike that someone shot and instead of just taking the head they only took the backstraps and front/rear quarters. Isn't this illegal? We found the spike on the 2-day of the LE and we figured it had been shot during the archery hunt because it had been dead for more than 2 days.... That just got me thinking that a few years ago we had the meat from a cow of ours stolen in the same area. We ended up shooting two cows and while we were cleaning one of them (the other one was approx 200 yds away in some thick timber) we had a guy come up from the direction of the other cow and 'stall' us for a minute and when we got to the other cow the backstraps and quarters were gone.

Those boys sure must have been hungry!!!!

Sorry they stole your meat.

Last year during the spike elk hunt my buddies found a 5X bull that had been poached that morning. They called it in and took the DWR officers to the bull.

They immediately began to accuse my buddies of killing the bull and were trying to get them to confess to it. They called their dad, who came up in a fit of rage, and then they started accusing him of poaching the bull. It was a real learning experience and they are pretty bitter about it. I don't blame them.

I'd be real careful calling stuff in because once you do, you are their primary suspect. Saw how that works first hand and that's a call I will never make unless I have a name or a license plate to give them.

Elk may have been wounded by a ligit hunter and never recovered. Someone may have then stumbled onto him and cut the head for the rack. Not necessarily a poaching incident.

it is still illegal and the division might try and pin poaching on you if you pick up the head not worth it IMHO

Archery is a year round commitment!!

I lost a great Bull near shingle mill. hunted for him for 2 days then went back 3 days later and looked for 2 more days hoping the birds would help me out. but no luck. passed on several other good bulls hoping to find mine, and ended up losing the bull of a lifetime. I even went back down last weekend and spent 2 more days looking and asking everyone I saw if they had seen a dead bull to no avail. Gone are 15 points and the hunt of a lifetime spent looking for a bull I know died somewhere and I couldn't find him.

I think the bullet hole rules out any hit by a car theory unless they were driving a chevy 338.
