AZ bull

Here is the bull I shot in Arizona this year. I had seen a few bigger ones but could not close the deal on them. It was hot and pretty tough hunting for a guy used to the "high mountain alpine" hunting. I had a great trip though. I had basically given up on the evening and was headed back to the quad when I heard a small grunt. This guy never let out a bugle but just made a small grunt. I was not even sure if I had heard it or not. I decided to quietly sneak in just in case. I caught a glimpse of him and got in front to head him off. He went a bit faster than I anticipated and I ended up at about 20 yards to him with a juniper between us. I had to back up and kneel down all at the same time drawing back my bow to get a shot. It seemed like a perfect shot but there was hardly a blood trail. He went about 200 yards and piled up.

Awesome bull with those fronts! good job and the shot looks good to me too, elk never seem to bleed very much with any shot (generally speaking).

very nice, indeed...congratulations on a fine bull...thank you for the pics...

It was 6A. I am not sure however if I would recommend this unit to others. Granted I got a great bull but from talking to many others this unit in general is considered somewhat average. It is not a big unit. I think I got lucky and found a little pocket that held some decent bulls and was lucky to harvest one of them. I was using an application service and they took my 9 points and put them on this unit. I won't disclose the service but I was not very happy to learn about this at first but in the end it has worked out. I hope to get back to Arizona again some day... hopefully not in another 9 years.

Congrats on a beautiful bull, it looks like things worked out pretty well for you! The unit may not be as well known for producing huge bulls as districts 9,10, 27 and etc., but it holds its own and is an excellent unit. Don't be so hard on your app. service...they put a tag in your pocket for a solid unit in the mecca of elk hunting (that's AZ of course). There are plenty of 380+ bulls roaming 6A. Again, congrats!
