Fellow Hunters,

I have purchased a tresspass tag this year up this canyon for Elk and Deer. After a pre-season scouting with little success, I have yet to hear a bugle, see an Elk or any sign of Elk on this property.

If anyone has hunted this canyon on the private ground up there and you're are willing to shed some advice or expertise please contact me..

I'd appreciate any words. Much Obliged and Happy Hunting.

Chalk Creek is a huge area, consisting of summer and winter range. If the ranch is in the winter range- or midlevel- areas then it will be tough to find the elk. If the ranch is in the higher country then there should be elk sign. I hunted a friend's ranch in up there for years and there are plenty of elk in the "Chalk Creek" area, but you have to be at the right elevations to find them consistently. If you are in the aspens with oakbrush/sage then you should find some elk. If there is too much pressure on the ranch then the elk will also move off.

Packout is dead on! If you are in the lower level, you're best hope is that the property you are hunting has little to no pressure, if it does then you will get some Elk move in around the second weekend after being pressured on the other properties.

I agree with everything said. If the ranch is lower elevation you should get some elk on it toward the last 5 days of the hunt. It might depend on how close it is to some of the public ground in the Uintas and Weber Canyon--maybe even the higher ranches.
