Are behind every tree in AZ.

Just been thinking about how many 400" bulls were spotted by people I personally know this year. I was told of 9 400" bulls 8 of which were in the same unit. So, contrary to what some of you say, it looks as though they are starting to sprout up behind every tree.

Its funny how everybody thinks they are experts at scoring elk. Every other bull you hear of that has been spotted is a 400" bull.

It's Bush's fault!!!

sremin your 400" bulls are like my 8x7's haha was told about 11 of these bulls in various canyons drainages and mountains. Did i end up finding even one?? no! they must be sneaky

LAST EDITED ON Oct-03-08 AT 11:11AM (MST)[p]Imo there is only a handfull of hunters that ever see a 400 bull in their lifetime and there is only a handfull of hunters that would know what a 400 bull even looks like. I don't think i would. You sure hear a lot of stories about people that see them and im sure that most people that see these big boys are really only lookin at a 380 type bull. People don't realize just how big a 400 bull is. Im pretty accurate at guessing a bulls score up to about 350, after that all i know is its a big son of a #####. how many hunters do you really think would know a 400 bull from a 370. Im sorry but whenever i hear of someone seeing one i almost always call BS the second i hear it

My neighbor killed a 407 bull 2 years ago here in Az. He was in Huntin Fool Magazine. He has done a lot of remodeling in his house and I have helped him move that bull from wall to wall several times. Every time I see him and put those antlers in my hand I say to myself OMG? I just don't realize how big this thing really is. With that said I know in the 20 plus years I have hunted Elk here in Arizona that I have never seen a 400 plus bull on the hoof. Even 340?s impress me in the field and I am no guess on scores. I can only compare what I see on my neighbors wall? Oh, and drool a lot.

It's almost like the 30" bucks that 'everyone' sees. I have a bro-in-law that says everytime I talk to him that he saw two or three more 30" bucks... I just laugh...

It does take a lot of experience to be able to be somewhat accurate with offhand field scoring. Many guys aren't even in the ball park when it comes to an educated guess. Hence, the 400" bulls on every hillside. Lots and Lots of trial and error to become proficient at it. I know a few guys that are extremely good at it. I'm just average but I'm getting better.
Someday I'll be a pro. Maybe in ten more years.

400" BULLS DON'T MEAN SQUAT ANYMORE!!!

IF YOU GONNA SEE A BULL THAT WILL BREAK THE 500" MARK YOU'LL HAVE TO BE IN TARDVILLE!!!
