Is the Remington SPS series a good shooter? I know they scaled down features to make the gun affordable; It sells for a little more than a Weatherby Vanguard! I plan on getting it in 300 mag. I will choose between the Rem. or a Tikka T-3. The SPS comes with a 26" barrel, and under 8 pounds.

just got one in .300wsm last week. action i quiet smooth and everything seems the way it should be. need to adjust the trigger though. can't wait to shoot it. i mainly got it for the barrel and action. i've got an hs precision stock on the way and plan on coating the entire gun in duracoat matte black. good luck with yours.

I have an SPS in 270 that shoots 1/2 MOA with factory 130 grain remington corelocks. I also had the trigger worked on a bit. This gun knocks down milk jugs at 450 yards.
Great gun for the money. The only other deal that rivals this gun are the new Savage / Stevens guns. They go for under $300 and rock!!! My 223 shoots sub 1" MOA and my 243 shoots 1/2" MOA.
Always fun shopping. Alan

After doing a lot of research and shopping around, we decided to purchase a new Remington 700 SPS Stainless 30-06 as a gift for my son's earning the Eagle Scout Award.

Rifle was $469.00 from Sportsman's Warehouse in Riverdale, Utah and included a 24" stainless / parkerized barrel and Limbsaver Recoil Pad. FYI: The blued version was discounted to $398.00, but we like the stainless at $469. (Note: The 2005 Stainless version retails for $613 and has replaced the 2004 BDL's Stainless and the SPS in blue ($520 retail) has replaced the 2004 ADL line that which was dropped.)

We just finished Piller Bedding the action / Free Floating the Barrel, and Adjusting the Trigger to 2 3/4 lbs.

So far, results have been between 7/8" and 1 1/8", with the rifle only having 12 shots through the barrel. Should be a MOA shooter after the barrel's broken in.

BTW - Any suggestions on the best way to break the barrel in - besides cleaning after every few shots?
