What do you guys think about getting two more days to hunt elk on the muzzy hunt, rifle gets 11 bow gets almost a month we pay 280 just like everybody else and have to deal with cows being herded up the last two days of the hunt and also sheep and like bow hunters we deal with deer hunters and spike elk hunters on alot of units I think bow hunters should get their time and rifle also I just want the same as the rifle hunters do fair is fair a penny for your thoughts

--more more more..... you put in for the tag knowing its x ammount of days....you miss out and then think you could get it done if you had two more days? why not, while we're at it lets just say your tags good until you kill one! no expiration date just hunt. All day everyday, no worries, no pressure......

I have always thought the muzzy hunters should get a little more time. It doesn't make much sense for the rifle hunters to hunt longer then muzzy

LAST EDITED ON Oct-04-08 AT 07:50AM (MST)[p]I know I'm probably going to get slammed for this but I say shorten the rifle season! Rifle season during the prime rut with more tags...just doesn't make sense! I can guarantee if they continue to increase tags with a long rifle season during the rut quality is going to continue to decline!

9 days for a muzzy hunt is pretty long and most guys are done by the end. What really seems to screw things up is a tough year like they had this year during the archery and rifle hunts. There were so many hunters and spotters running up and down the roads and hills that the elk were scattered everywhere! Every hunter seems to have a caravan of spotters that arrive prior to the season to scout. In a year with better conditions these same hunters get in and out of the unit and it isn't as much a problem. Having a shorter rifle season may relieve a little of the pressure on the elk?

LAST EDITED ON Oct-04-08 AT 10:03AM (MST)[p]The elk have been scattered since spring. The amount of feed and water this year had a lot to do with it. You can blame the rifle guys if you want but this of all years is not the year for muzz. hunters to complain.

As far as shortening the seasons I don't know, maybe we should shorten them all.

All hunts 5 days....Mon-Fri....No weekends. More tags, more hunters, less success....Who knows, might be a good thing. You could have three archery seasons in the one that we currently have. It would certainly be tough, but just think how much easier it would be to draw the last week of August opposed to the second week of September..

Although I would be the first to admit it would be great to offer more tags and more seasons I can't imagine what it would be like with more guys scouting, rampaging up and down the roads, and hiking the hills! You may want to read the posts on the Monroe archery hunt to get a feel for what it was like there this year!

There were several times on my buddies hunt this year that we were bumping into other hunters. Most of the time it wasn't just one hunter but a hunter with 4 or 5 spotters...and we were hunting super remote areas! I can't get over how many spotters each tag holder has in Utah and with more tags and seasons it could only make things worse!

I don't know about you, but if I wait 10 to 15 years for a tag I would like the opportunity to hunt quality bulls and have a quality experience! Utah better re-think where they are headed or it will end up similar to what we have in Colorado! I likely won't ever draw another UT elk tag but I'd like everyone to have the quality experience I had last year!
