Washington special permit units

Ok guys,do any of you know anything about Washington unit #245 Chiwawa. There are 30 rut hunt tags and I am thinking of putting it down for my 3rd choice. I have a fair # of points and dont want to burn them where I cant get a good buck....

All the units are good. Just pick 4 and if you're lucky enough to draw one of them it'll be good. Chiwawa is just as good as any.

last year they had 40 special permits. 38 people returned their harvest report.34 of the 38 hunted and they killed 27 bucks for a 79% kill rate. Sounds like you will see bucks if you draw a tag.

Make sure you only put in 4 hunt codes if you really want to hunt those units. a couple of years ago I drew a bull elk tag that only had 5 permits and it was my fourth choice. I only put the unit down to fill out the card and did not know anything about the place.

There really isn't a bad late mule deer rut hunt in the state, Chiwawa is as good as any and depending upon the snow level may be better than some, if you draw it spend time and learn it and it will pay off.

I drew that tag last year. First of all it's a huge unit. I would take a look at it's boundries as it covers pretty much from Coles Corner to the beginning of Entiat.

It's definately a rut hunt....almost a pre-rut hunt. The deer started ruttin' a little early up there last year, and with that extra week for general season they did REALLY well up there.

As for me, I was a little disappointed. With any of those tags over there my sights were set high. I hunted 4 days, off three, and back for 5 more. The first 4 days saw a coupla' decent bucks, but nothing I wanted to tag....but the deer were ruttin' pretty good. I thought it would only get better as the week went on.

Second trip back, first day was nothin' but blue skiies. Saw 14 doe and 4 two-points. The next four days was nothing but heavy heavy fog. Couldn't even hunt type of fog. To shortin this little story up I literally got an hour of decent hunting in on Sat. my last morning, and decided to take a 23" 3x3.

If you like to road hunt, then you'll love this unit....if you don't, like myself, then it can be a difficult unit to hunt. Your gonna see bucks in all those surrounding units, it's gonna be a matter of what your lookin' for. I would not waste my points on an area I did not know though....keep that in mind.

If you want any more specific ??'s PM me.

ridgerunner....you sittin' on any points this year?? Plan on going on the high hunt in Sept.??

Eight!! I didn't think you could go that long without drawing something? :) I thought I was doing good with 4, but then again, I hunt archery for elk....so odds are a little better. If I do draw that any bull tag, it'll be right in the middle of the high hunt. Tough choice huh. :) Good luck man.

I also have eight points for elk. I really want to draw a bull permit this year, so I decided to go with a muzzleloader rather than rifle. Hopefully I'll have much better odds of drawing. Zero points on the deer since I drew Entiat last year.

I talked with the biologist today and he said that if you know the correct places to hunt according to the weather, that chiwawa or mission would his first choice, Im talking 180 type bucks. He said chelan county now has 27 bucks per 100 does and oakonogan has 14 but both counties have more mature bucks than most of us think........as far as you guys with elk points I think the east side muzzeloder hunts may be the best hunts going. I archery hunt for elk but didn't draw, went 5 days anyway and scouted for my pal who drew muzzeloader. Put him on a nice 6x6opening morning, scored 308 ....wish he would not have done that cause there was a 340+ bruiser in the next canyon....O well, he was happy and maby I will draw this year....
