97 Powerstroke 7.3

I didn't know you have to disable glow plugs to use a shot of ether. It's below zero and my tool box wouldn't unlock to get anti-gel fluid when I filled tank yesterday. So I turned key on,it wouldn't start so went out and gave it a shot. Went back in and the glow plug light had just went out.
It started atitle then my air cleaner blew apart and I had flames. I wait a minute then started it and now it has an intermittent funny harmonic noise that lasts a few seconds then quits and then comes back. I drove home.and the power seemed ok. Turbo, intake or more problems could have been caused but don't know yet. At the very least I need a new plastic air cleaner cover clear to the silicone turbo hose. Makes me sick now.

I've used WD-40 on my D6 and never had a problem. Used on my cornbinder 6.9 too.

I used it on the pre turbo international and pre isuzu chev thousands of times and never had a problem. The international in the 89 one ton was harder to turn on than most ex wifes.

I didn't have the glow plugs disconnected, only used a 1-1.5 second blast. I don't know if it hurt the engine but the Turbo might be affected. I will have to find a used air cleaner housing .

That truck only has 128 K. It seems crazy to buy a newer truck at 58 years old and throw away some of the money I want for retirement.on the other hand a fancy creature comfort truck seems appealing..

My step son builds diesels, SEMA shows etc. So he is tops in the league. Hopefully he has time to look it over .

One reason I'm not a diesel fan. Both of my buddies diesel wouldn't stay started after a weekend ice fishing trip to boysen. They both claimed to have put a ton of additives in the fuel. They ended up plugging them into the generator for an hour or so. Not sure if this is something you are supposed to do, but it got them started.
