So?

It's the Plastic & Foam that makes them Cost what they do?

I'm thinking the moral of the story is buy an RTIC or some other no name roto molded cooler and save a boatload of cash because they're all the same.

Drinkin from my $9 ozark trail stainless tumbler. Yeti will start to come down to reality soon. Course they made a pile a money off some.

My Coleman extreme keep ice as good as my Yeti. The only thing different is the Yeti cost and weighs 3 times as much.

Everyday for 30yrs. If I charge 3 times what my competition does I'm in the bread line in a week! In 5 yrs yeti will cut their prices or be under. Course there's plenty of people tryin to compensate for their shortcomings so I could be wrong.

DW,

If you build houses then you should understand that if two houses have wood in them and a concrete slab then they must all cost the exact same right?????? And everyone of your competitors offer just as much quality as you, right?????

Does every single 5000 square foot house you build cost the same? They all have insulation inside them right? They must be the same price.

All beef is the same right? I mean its all meat. Couldn't be that much difference between a tomahawk ribeye and an oxtail??? They both have bones fat and meat. Why would one be five times more than the other? Some people know the difference.

The truth is I have bought and used dang near every type of cooler in the industry. Plastics aren't the same. Foams are not the same. Assembly isn't the same. I can honestly say nothing comes close to a yeti cooler for retaining cold temperatures. I have also yet to find another cooler as durable. I own two I have yet to have to replace them. I have owned RTIC, Grizzly, Coleman, Igloo. All of them have some something that isn't quite what the Yeti is. That's where the money went.

On a different note I will tell you one thing I hate about Yeti. They are a pain in the a55 to move. I wish they were lighter and slid easier.

The company that will put Yeti in the bread line is the one that offers the same performance, that's as durable, AND WEIGHS HALF AS MUCH. Until then they will do just fine.

Beat it Gros. We are talking about coolers. Go start your own thread about me if you want to continue your stalking and worship.

DW, is that the mother-in-law unit? :D

tristate, they both appear to exhibit the same characteristics in the chainsaw test. So if you're just going to buy one to cut in half, go with the cheaper one, IMO. :)

If you do a search on youtube for cooler comparisons you'll see that Yeti is middle of the road. Kind of.

Here's one at random.

Thanks for posting eel. I have not bought a pelican yet although I own their gun cases and they are great. The orca sure looks interesting but they cost pretty much the same as a Yeti. None of it was what I would call science since there were way to many variables between each cooler.

I always go with the cheap ones that only last three days. The beer never lasts past 3 days anyway, no matter how much we bring. :) just kidding.

Thanx!

@ eel

Actually it was for one of the original big wigs of Storage Tek, a local tape library computer storage company. Good people! Always had some kinda baked goods for the crew when they stopped by! Easy people to work with, always in a good mood, excited everytime they stopped by. The type that makes you want to put out the very best product you can.

@ tri

Apple's to oranges really. How many igloos can I buy for the cost of a yeti the same size, 10? So I can promise you if my bid was 10 times as high as my competitions I wouldn't get the bid, unless maybe I was puttin it to the Mrs 10 times better than the old man! Course that may make him a bit suspicious!

Full disclosure, I've never owned a yeti. Doubt I ever will.

Truth be told...I own the 125 quart and the 65 quart Yeti. Both were gifts from the Mrs. for my birthday 4 years ago. Would I have spent the $1100 on coolers? No...but I'm married to a wife that doesn't know any better. I was grateful for the gift and I will not need to buy any other coolers....hopefully. They work great but are very heavy and cumbersome...much like the other "higher quality" coolers out there. It is what it is....if you don't wanna spend the $$ for the coolers, you don't need to. I take them to the lake for 3-4 days and the ice lasts long enough...even getting in and out of them for drinks and food. They are paid for so its all good!

Cancer doesn't discriminate...don't take your good health for granted because it can be gone in a heartbeat. Please go back and read the last line. This time really understand what it says.

I own a Grizzly that I got in a deal. I've only used it a couple times and both times the ice eventually melted just like all the others I have owned. Since I wasn't doing a side-by-side comparison with the exact same amount of ice and contents and the exact same usage I can't say it's better than a Yeti. I find that, no matter what product you are talking about, the brand you own is either the best or the worst on the market. And the more you paid for it the more exaggerated the results are.

The ice chest that I have used that will hold ice longer than any other chest I have ever seen is an old 100+ quart igloo that belongs to my buddy. I have seen that one hold ice sitting in the back of a pickup in August longer than anyone would believe and longer than it really should. It holds for days. I have no idea why it does or if another exactly the same would work as well. I also don't know what he paid for it years ago but it was a lot less than a Yeti.

Personally I would never buy one of those high dollar units. Can't justify it. If I hadn't gotten my Grizzly the way I did I wouldn't own it either.

I Won an SFW Cooler a few years back!

I Finally Took My Sawzall to it!

Shoulda used my Stihl!

Just to prove what I already knew!

Not a GAWD-DAMN speck of Insulation in it anywhere!

The Local Spray Foam Boys here make the Best Coolers!

Not Real Perty!

But when they get done there's a 100+ R Rating Value!

Kinda what my SFW Cooler needed!

Well, you must be doing something truly special that EVERY other person, blog, magazine, etc has done a comparison because they've shown time and time again that nearly every single knockoff actually does come close, if not exceeding, Yeti's ability to retain cold.
