Truck opinions wanted.

My Daughter could use an older, low cost Chev or Ford 3/4 ton 4x4.

I saw some 2001 Chevy's with a 496 ci and DuroMax Transmission that looked interesting.

She may be hauling Beef or Horses and Feed. Due to California, she'd need it capable of passing smog. Was the large engine only offered back in the early 2000's...? She want's to try to keep the cost near 5k but could go higher.

Jagerdad :)

I have a few of those trucks at work, that is the 8.1 liter with the Allison transmission. I was told by a dealership chevy quit offering this package due to smog regulations. For a gas truck they do pretty good pulling / driving. I wouldn't hesitate to pick one up.

Doesn't She know where there's An ECO-BOOST?:D

A Guy Showed me His BRAND DAMN NEW RAPTOR This Morning!

Every Option Available & He Claimed it was 1 of only 2 in the State at this Time!

LOCKERS Front & Back!

10 SPEED Tranny!

Cameras from damn near every Direction, even one that looks down on the Truck!

450 PONIES in the Stock Form!

(((Don't Know if ROUSCH or HENNESY has a SuperCharger Package for this yet,But if they do it'll easily be a 650+ HP Truck when they get done with it!)))

Nice SOB!

Nice Price Tag as Well!

Even Comes with ATV Ramps in the Back of the Bed!

Now JAG!

Don't know what Kinda Truck You'll get for 5K?

She's gonna need dependability or you'll never Quit Worrying about her!

Them 496's are THIRSTY when you put a Load behind them!:D
They Only Built them for a few Years!

If She's gonna do alot of Pulling I'd Recommend a BELCHER!

Ebay motors, you can find some pretty nice trucks on there,California I hear will only do the computer check and no exhaust check.

390 was hard to beat for an all around workhorse. Belchers are the way to go now except for every swinging ##### just out of puberty thinks they need one.

Mtmuley pretty much nailed it if you want a gas engine for a puller. The only trick is finding one with reasonable miles because the gassers lose a lot of their nut once they get high mileage. Power loss is fairly noticeable after 100k or so.

I don't know what you can get for $5000 that will pull trailers without taking a lot of breaks along the roadside. I do know, however, that you will get more for your money in Nevada, Arizona or Utah, if you can justify a trip out there anyway...

$5000 is the new $1500 when it comes to trucks. It'll buy you a basic 4*4 that runs, but not too much else. If you want something without tons of miles, you'll be looking at more like 10-15k.

The Ford's with the 3 valve V10 (2005-1010) will also pull really well, if you can find one for sale.

Nearing our 39th Wedding Anniversary, "I" deal with the below :-(

I am/was seeking a hot Truck for my youngest Daughter. Like 1911 said: For those just out of Puberty.
Just like an All State Insurance Advertisement, DAD is the last, repeat, The LAST person to be told about an accident or, many other items.

Us Dad's should have a Thousand Man March on Washington DC about this matter. Its more critical than any silly Russian Plot.

Dad's SHOULD be Honored, Respected, Trusted and Females should not VIEW Dad as Mr. "NO"....Mr. "You're In Trouble Kid".

It SEEMS that in the secret zone, Daughter knows that if Mom gets any NEW VEHIC-KA-MAL, Daughter gets Moms Ford Excursion.

This Baby Daughter then has a Modern vehicle and does not need to replace the Radiator (I made her do) on the Family's 1987 Chevy Suburban,
3/4 Ton, 4x4, Work Horse and Family heirloom.... holding endless Hunting Memories.....etc....Has Air but No-Workey, Has Windshield wipers but they go slow.
The Drivers Seat is broken leaning Back, There is and has "Not Been", a Radio....Kids need to watch the Road and not be listening to a Radio....Its the same way in our Reloading Room(s). So Guy's..... Gurrrrr. I offer the Wife a Raptor and she says: If "I" want one, OK, go get one"....But She seeks the below. Triple Gurrrr......

Mom feels this or something similar, inexpensive, great of Mileage = Her commute vehicle.

The above is what Mom desires, or....anything LIKE IT. She can have 1 or 2 of the below but "NO". Quad Triple Gurrrr

I appreciate the hint from 264Mag about ebay Motors. I never thought of it.

Elk, Yes, she walks past the new Ford Eco-Boost daily but No-Way will she get the keys. It's not the vehicle, its I will not Bubble Wrap any child and give them what they desire. They must Earn Calluses in life by the Roads of Hard Work, Never ending College Education, Earning and watching the Penney's = The Dollars will take care of themselves.

I will take a big step back and look for a Truck that has lower mileage and a normal 350 Engine. The towing will need to come later. My Daughter wouldn't care if it had a VW Engine in it as long as it was raised and has big tires. I tend to think many of us go through that phase. If it breaks, both Daughters were raised with tools in their hands and can fix most problems.

Please, keep entering any suggestion.

Jagerdad :)

I've had a V10 in every one of my F350's since my 4-door 1999.

No not a beat to chit work truck my POV.

I keep them till about 95k--98k and then trade/sell and get a brand new one--been getting Regular cabs since 2005 it is all I need with the long bed.

Ya!
