Been bone on bone for about 14 years. Time to get it fixed.

Any of you fellas ever have it done?

If so, what was recovery time from surgery to walking?

Surgery to driving?

thanks

Fortunately I have not had to do that. However I know a guy who had one replaced about two weeks ago and he walked into a meeting I was at Wednesday. He drove himself there too.

I have had it done. Too many basketball games in my time. They tell you not to drive for 6 weeks, but I was driving in about 4. I felt better from about 6 weeks out and never looked back. You won't realize how it affected you until it doesn't hurt all the time. Don't kid yourself though, that first couple weeks is miserable. Pain was really rough. PT is the key to getting strength back. I have no regrets except that I should have done it earlier.

Can't offer much advice on the subject yet but I'm sure my times coming. My real concern is the dog in your picture...I think he needs professional help?

Fed Doc, I will give you honest and accurate advice about having your knee replaced. I am 69 and in good general health. Had bad knees for years with my share of the pain that goes along with that condition. Back in 2011, I had my right knee replaced--it was beyond bad. As was mentioned earlier, this is no walk in the ole park. Plenty of pain involved especially if your stomach cannot tolerate the heavy duty pain meds that the doctors will allow you to have. The first 21 days will be a burden but after that you will improve each and every day.....following the advice of your physical therapist is ESSENTIAL to a wonderful recovery and a much better YOU. almost immediately, you will start the therapy and after you get home (about three days) you will start to receive home health therapy and after two or 3 weeks of that you will need to go to a physical therapy clinic for prob three more weeks of the intense therapy.......do everything the professionals tell you to do and will you be a NEW man/person. April 9, 2015 I had my left knee replaced by the same doctor at the same hospital....everything was duplicated and this knee is not quite the same as my first (not quite as good). Every now and then a trace of pain involved but nothing to what my natural left knee was causing me before the surgery. some fellows have both knees replaced at the same time but I would NOT recommend that. Yes, the pain is bad but not UN-bearable and at the 21 day mark you will start to really get better and better. Best thing I ever did for myself was to have my knees replaced. Hunted the past five years in Colorado for cow elk with my old Remington 700 M.L. rifle under my arm supported by two replaced knees. GET it done NOW and you will not regret it. Private message me anytime for further details/info/advice. Cow Tag from south Illinois.

Fed,I may not be far behind you. Was it me, but that seemed a little crude. I have an inlaw that is doing both knees at the same time. The Dr.maps it out on the computer and a machine cuts it out. Good luck with your surgery.

I had my left knee, a partial on inside, done back in Dec 2016 and don't regret it other than the first few weeks were rough. The PT is the worst part. My replacement was done by a Robotic machine with the Dr. controlling it by computer.
The night of surgery and the next day I thought I was Superman, no pain and did all the walking with walker and exercises still no pain. Then I went home and then on the 3rd day with in home PT all reality set in on walking and bending the leg just to get 90 degree bends...Oh chit!
Went to PT and had gone for 12 visits till I went back to Dr. and he said that I was doing fine...end of PT gym.
Follow the Dr. and PT orders and you will be fine.
Here is a picture of my inside partial left knee replacement
with the bottom piece made of Tiatatium sp? that has a thin layer of soft material on it, the top piece is made of chrome polished metal that slides over the smooth part of lower unit.

I just had my left one done, going on 3 months now. Pretty bad pain for the first week or so but after that it gets better weekly. As mentioned already, do the PT like youre told. A stationary bike makes a big difference too. Im going up and down stairs good without holding on now and very little pain. I was told its a full year before youll be 100 % recovered but Im expecting to archery hunt in less than two months.

My neck was 2 level fusion in April an left shoulder gets more hardware mid Sept...
Only advice I can offer is take it easy and DO NOT OVER WORK KNEE... do exactly what they say or you will bruise and get very sore...

My knee was a total joint replacement...6 weeks on a walker I was told..out 3 mos work..
Some days it sucks as far as pain.. gave me a Mr iceman that works great.. for icing knee..(has a wrap and hose pump..) I also wear the knee Immobilizer and elevate 20 hours a day..foam pad and walker was Provided.
My surgeon was the best..
Some go home same day I was overnight because my surgery was last of day..
I can't take anti inflammatory meds so I have to inject them once daily..just really take 1st week very slow even if it feels good..
I also get a in home nurse (a very hot looking nurse) twice a week for a few more weeks then I will go to another place for my PT.

25 SEP surgery....i guess leaving for an elk hunt on 21 OCT might be interesting.

Or not. The boss says no way.

I don't think that hunt a month out will work my friend. Everyone has their own pain tolerance but not only that walking on un even ground would be terribly risky.

that looks pretty clean. Do you know the model of knee hardware?

Your neck...did they go through the front? My guy did. Can't see the scar.
