last night.

Took my whiney asssss fishing and hunting as a kid. Taught me a work ethic.

It's like a huge chunk of my outdoors past is gone.

Sorry to hear of your loss feddoc. Death often forces refection. I'm sure you will soon be smiling with warm heart reflecting upon the times you spent together.

Write up those memories and preserve them for your family and his. With your wit and outdoors introspection there are undoubtedly dozens of valuable and colorful life lesson you could leave your future generations.

It would be a tribute to someone you think highly of and therapeutic at the same time.

Take his favorite gun hunting with you this fall. He will be a happy camper up there.

Sorry to hear that, feddoc. I can't say how you feel but I'm sure its a hopeless feeling. I like lumpys suggestion of writing your memories down. That way, his legacy will be past on for all to remember.
