School Shootings

Each time there is a school shooting I cringe.

My Position is on how Mental Health has been screwed up seemingly forever. Case in point, if a powerful family member wish to be rid of his wife or most anyone in the 1930's, 40's etc, they could send them away forever into a Mental Hospital.... $$$$ Talked.

Currently most every beat Officer knows who are the mentally ill whom goes violent yet, the 72 hr hold is a Joke. The Under funded County Hospital wins by charging the State $350+ Per hour but there's an hour limit. So, once the $$$$ limit is reached the mentally ill person is verbally asked to seek mental health help and released. Once again, $$$ talks....but only as long as the $ is given.

With the American Civil Liberties Union, They prohibit Mental health confinements and... Get this... They fought and WON, a case that still now, stops Police from physically detaining runaway kids. Mothers and Fathers Plea for Police to find and return their child yet, Police are not allowed. Put that in ones pipe and smoke it.

So, Read the following article and: GET INVOLVED.

Sadly, I think no one will get involved with their State Government on Mental health. Most wait until such a bomb explodes in their lives before they ponder getting Active.

...wasn't it during Reagan's terms that most mental institutions got shut down by the left's court cases.....causing a huge rise in homelessness blamed on Reagan??

Homer and others....

Find the CORE Matter, yet not beat around the edges or versions of History.

YOU may seek being a safe independent individual, Same is such feelings and thoughts of Mental Health Folks.

What is the Hard Question in today's global world....Local Town or neighborhood...?

It is OUR matter, Not always the Governments or is it.

Few shall write back in a Reply. Why ... Cuz its a Hard answer.

It's the way we coddle our children now. They can't be punished, are ?great? at EVERYTHING they do. Most parents do not have the word no in their vocabulary. Our judicial system is a complete joke. It's broken beyond repair. FBI is so far into a false narrative that they completely left a legitimate threat alone. Didn?t even bother to follow up on numerous tips. There are so many thing that attribute to these problems, could go on for hours.

*We are all in the same boat, just
wishing to be hunting right now!*

We need to make it more painful to kill school children than to not kill school children. Even a mental retard knows better than to touch the wood stove. Hang Nikolas Cruz from a flag pole until he rots and put that on facebook. Let's start there.

I said it's a place to start, not the complete answer. It will deter a lot. Make it hurt physically and psychologically. Put it on facebook and let people talk about it.

Or, get some more coffins ready.

As with most, Cruz appeared to have some mental health problems (few don't), but that is NOT why he killed. He's a sociopath. One at the more severe end of the scale. The only recent mass shooter I've heard of that may have had really severe mental health problems was the one that killed a bunch of people in a theater in the Denver area a few years ago.

People can only be locked up against their will until they no longer present an immediate danger. Not a danger in a few days or a week. Immediate. I've been in the mental health field for 26 years and have not been impressed that hospitalization is ever effective for more than short term stabilization. Then people are released and go back to the environment that wigs them out and they wig out.

Cruz is a psychopath. Severe antisocial personality disorder with a good dollop of narcissism on top. Throw the key away. That he'd come to the attention of law enforcement as much as he did was enough warning.

I will say that there are few mental health professionals competent in identifying and dealing with that population. Most treatments reinforce the problem.

Guns or no guns, expect mass killings to escalate in coming years. Our society is a sociopath making factory.

At some point we'll come to our senses and lock people up in asylums again. For some people this world will never be right.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-25-18 AT 10:18AM (MST)[p]The people that end up in asylums aren't the ones that go on mass killing sprees. What do we do?

1. Admit that monsters do, always have, and always will live among us.

2. Admit that while most of them won't become killers, a certain percentage will cross the threshhold.

3. Educate law enforcement and mental health professionals in how to pick out the highest risk individuals (with objective assessment) and have the law allow breach of confidence with duty to warn.

4. Action to actually protect high risk areas/populations. You will never be able to beat the creative intellect of the demons. Stop focusing on 'make me feel better... make me feel safer' ideas. Do we need safe rooms in the school? Do we need concrete barriers around playgrounds to prevent drive-over killings? Etc..

There are dozen ways a person could quickly kill a lot more than a dozen or two victims, than shooting. Frankly, I'd rather have an easily identifiable, isolatable target, than a perpetrator watching the mayhem from a distance. Even if it were possible to remove all firearms from the world (as well as the ability to make more), we'd only see an escalation in severity and wide spread devastation of mass killings.

As much as public executions and degradation of perpetrators would make us happy, they are not deterrents. Punishment isn't a deterrent for most of the criminally minded. Hence a high rate of re-offending.

Completely agree.
Execute them and I can guarantee they won't ever harm another individual.
The usual cry from a population that is becoming more and more government dependent is "what are they going to do about this". Or, who or what is to blame.
Make all the laws and regs you want. Make material objects illegal. Put as many safeguards in place as you wish.
None of the knee jerk reactions or best laid plans is going to eliminate evil actions committed by evil persons.
This has been true since the beginning of man.

Tarasoff v. Regents of the University of California

On October 27, 1969, University of California, Berkeley graduate student Prosenjit Poddar sought out Berkeley student Tatiana Tarasoff while she was alone in her home, shot her with a pellet gun, chased her into the street with a kitchen knife, and stabbed her seventeen times, causing her death.

Podder became enamored with Tatiana Tarasoff and was confused and enraged when she rejected his advances. On June 5, 1969, Poddar sought and received emergency psychological treatment from Dr. Lawrence Moore, a psychologist employed by the Cowell Memorial Hospital at the University of California at Berkeley.
Poddar saw Dr. Moore seven times. On August 20, 1969, during his 7th therapy session, Poddar confessed that he planned to kill Tatiana Tarasoff. Dr. Moore diagnosed Poddar with having an acute and severe "paranoid schizophrenic reaction." He and two other doctors determined that Poddar should be committed to a psychiatric hospital for observation and contacted the police.

However, the police only briefly detained Poddar, releasing him after he promised to stay away from Tarasoff. Following Poddar?s release, Dr. Harvey Powelson, Dr. Moore?s superior, instructed the police to return the letter from Dr. Moore instructing them to detain Poddar, ordered that the letter and all notes taken on Poddar be destroyed, and instructed Dr. Moore to take no further action in detaining Poddar. The doctors who examined Poddar never notified Tarasoff or her family about Poddar?s threatening statements. Poddar never returned to therapy and killed Tatiana Tarasoff as planned.

I may be a RUDE Jagerdad by saying; If you have never known all of the above, the following will either confuse you or be a distant memory. No Rudeness Intended.
(CBS News) Alleged Aurora, Colo, shooter James Holmes met with not one, but at least three mental health professionals at the University of Colorado prior to the massacre. How long he met with each one and the depth of their involvement is not clear, but it adds to the picture of Holmes being clearly on their radar in the time period leading up to the shootings. When contacted by CBS News, school spokesperson Jacque Montgomery declined comment, citing a judge's gag order.

At the University of Colorado Anschutz Campus, James Holmes had been a PhD student in neuroscience. But last June, he dropped out and was buying guns. Before he left this campus, he had seen at least three mental health professionals associated with student mental health services.

ie: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/james-holmes-saw-three-mental-health-professionals-before-shooting/

My fury then/now is where was Tarasoff...? See..??.. No one else gets in heat. WHO Dropped the Ball on this Nut..? Yes, they say it was/is the local Law Enforcement. Very untrue. So Homer and anyone else, including the alphabet Police, the question is, just as in my original Post.

mossback50cal was spot on insofar as brevity and subject matter.

mmwb is a well informed man. Listen to him but, get involved in self study, or return to College.

Eel is what we "WISH" but such went away long ago and, for great reasons....Most Lynch Mobs have

Matt Dillon, etc...... Certainly No Ben Cartwright... to enter the scene and solve all woes... :-(

If nothing above invoked going to Read more, Then when someone refers you to either being smarter then He, or dumb as dirt, Remember Hoss:
Hoss was an educated Scholar. He would stop bad guys in a gentle manner... Oh, did I Babble about needing Randolph Scott to help our modern goofy society. Yes I have. Maybe we should allow young boys to fist fight in grade school once again...?

Or Watch things Happen. Every shooter had signs even giant call-outs asking for help as they felt pains. The Sheriff's know who they are but have no legal tools to do much.

Here are six very brief videos. Understanding the topic should come first so her words are understood better.

PS: I gave a Link in my first introductory post that had this:

https://ww2.kqed.org/news/2017/11/06/the-withering-california-dream-by-the-numbers/

Kids and some Veterans struggle with "THEIR PERCEPTION" of their life, let alone feeling they have no one to communicate to, except certain folks but how can they win...? Even as they view themselves as coming in, in LAST Place... Or further behind. ?

Remember the Florida shooter "Piggy Backed" entry and the kid who he piggy backed said Hi. The shooter said get out of here, it's going to get bloody. This is why we have a no Piggy-Back RULE in classified areas. Self Reporting "Your Faults and Errors" = what no FBI Call center employee has in his/her training. Their typed response = everything is Handled.... To: POLICY. Ut-Oh, right there is a boo-boo.

What if our Society had computers who reporter to Mommy & daddy YOUR Son shall be Adolph Hitler and the Computer sends a car to take away your 5 yr old SON....?

Hence dah problems....And Hoss was overly high in IQ. I enjoy being a MM'y Member and some of my posts instantly become confusing....why

But not DW or BigJohnT or Elk has invited my friend MannyCA to a Hunt, let alone me :-(

Dear 2lumpy.

Your as others also know me, it might be time to hop in and make a comment.

Dear Chief ( + Alphabet Police) in ____ City USA. You may say some statements as to how hard, impossible all this is whilst all young kids think its the AR 15 which is the issue.

Jagerdad

Brother Elk, Hope in also and be yourself.

I'm with Eel on this one, let's enforce the laws we have on the books right now.

Cruz is guilty and there is no doubt about that, let's make an example out of him and line him up on the wall and shoot the no good SOB.

Why do we wait for years and years to settle these matters. Give him his trial and then when he is found guilty give him the firing squad.

Most of them think this is a way to stardom and their names will be in history. Also they live for another twenty to thirty years saying they were beaten while they were children or some other lame excuse as to why they killed so many innocent people.

Make it so they actually fear the law because it will be enforced.

South of Sacramento, there is this:

http://www.ktvu.com/news/stockton-police-arrest-teen-who-had-plans-to-commit-school-shooting

I forgot how many identical copy cat Youth arrests there were in Sacramento.

How many hit the news in your area...? Most are hidden from the PRESS. There has always been a distrust in the PRESS by LE and many others so, a very high % of identical matters never reach you.

Just wondering your thoughts & FEELINGS on such things in our High Schools.

RE: Richard Speck

Guns are just one means to an end. When evil drives someone to kill it matters not what the weapon. We are raising a nation of screwed up kids. They have no respect or fear of authority. It goes back to the parents and lack of parenting. Parents want to be their kids friend instead of their role model and teacher. If I behaved like these kids do today I would have never been able to set down or speak because of my fat lips.

What are your thoughts on video game and television violence? How can these things not be affecting young people? Total disregard for human life. The Nazis took innocent school kids and turned them, millions of them, into murderous monsters. This was accomplished in a very short time. Total disregard for human life. Young impressionable minds can be swayed very easily, more easily for bad than good it seems. It appears these individuals have no fear of the consequences of their actions. How do we deter such people from commiting these hideous crimes?
